Thrifting is something you either love or hate; some people love the idea of getting to recycle and reuse someone’s old items (and getting great pieces for affordable prices), and other people can’t stand the idea of buying something used. Whichever group you belong to, this list will make you see the good side of thrifting and might even inspire you to pay a visit to your local thrift store.
#1: Lost in the Stacks

Someone found this amazing partition at their local Goodwill. This wooden partition would be perfect in someone’s home library or office. It’s full of book spines, creating the illusion of a bookshelf. This design is so creative! We can’t imagine why someone would want to let it go. Alas, it ended up at Goodwill.
Sadly, the person who snapped this photo wasn’t able to take it home with them. So many things we stumble across while thrifting are extremely cool but impractical. This is one of them. This partition would only work if you had enough space in your home. Hopefully, this partition’s rightful second owner will come along soon to give it a new life.
#3: An Antique Artwork

This beautiful collection of jewelry is a perfect example of how creative people are when it comes to antiques and family heirlooms. This storyteller makes these beautiful framed arrangements for family members. She creates Christmas trees out of old family jewels, brooches, and charms. It’s a beautiful way to repurpose heirlooms that might not otherwise see the light of day.
She made this arrangement for her oldest sister. The tree is composed of thrifted, inherited, and donated jewelry. To top it all off, she waited until she found the perfect frame at a thrift store. She paid $1.50 for the gold frame, which came out just how she wanted. There are so many possibilities when it comes to repurposing and reusing thrifted and free trinkets.
#4: A Fashionable Tree

Thrift stores are amazing resources if you’re on a budget. You can find some true hidden gems at your local charity shop or Goodwill. This shopper was on a tight budget this past holiday season. Her little boy really wanted a Christmas tree, but she couldn’t afford to buy a new one. She kept searching at her local thrift stores to no avail.
She was about to give up when she stumbled across this gem of a tree. Someone had turned a mannequin into a Christmas tree, only to donate it to their local thrift shop. Our storyteller took one look at this unique tree and knew she had to get it. Her son was thrilled that they had a new-to-them tree that year!
#6: Facebook Marketplace Jackpot

Facebook Marketplace is one of the best places to score online deals. People are always trying to get rid of interesting things that no longer have a purpose in their lives. As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Someone was selling this gorgeous vintage sink for only $20, and our storyteller jumped at the chance.
It came with handpainted faucets and knobs, too! We have no idea why the original owner wanted to get rid of something so unique, but at least someone else got a good deal. The new owner plans to remodel their bathroom with a freestanding washstand to make this sink the centerpiece. We couldn’t agree more.
#7: Around the Globe

Buying electronics from a thrift store is always hit or miss. Thankfully, this purchase was a hit. Our shopper found this glass globe lamp at their local Goodwill for only six dollars. They loved the way it looked, so they decided to take a chance and buy it. They would only be out a few bucks if it didn’t work. What’s the harm?
Miraculously, the lamp still worked! They installed a new bulb and were thrilled to add it to their living room decor. Like most things from Goodwill, the lamp’s age and origin are unknown. Our storyteller shared that the lamp was made in Mexico, but that’s the only thing they could figure out.
#9: Flea Market Elegance

We love a good local flea market. If your local flea market is big enough, you can find just about anything while browsing the different vendors and booths. Someone shared their favorite flea market find that they purchased years ago. It’s an elegant ceramic horse that is a unique lime green color.
They have owned this statue for many years but have never discovered its origin. According to our storyteller, there is writing printed on the bottom, but it’s indecipherable. Ultimately, the story behind this statue doesn’t matter. All that matters is that the new owner loves it and takes good care of it.
#10: That’s a Wrap!

Isn’t it wild how expensive wrapping paper is these days? It seems like gift wrap rolls get smaller and more expensive with each passing year. Our wallets and checkbooks are extremely jealous of this thrift store find. Someone scored a 25-pound roll of vintage wrapping paper at their local Salvation Army.
They found this roll of paper a few years ago, and there is still so much left. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving. Our storyteller didn’t share how much they paid for this giant roll, but it’s safe to assume they got a wonderful deal. Even better, the wrapping paper is actually cute.
#12: A Retro Fainting Couch

Secondhand furniture is truly amazing sometimes. It’s wild to think that someone had this elaborate antique fainting couch in their home. Alas, it eventually ended up in a secondhand shop for someone else to find and take home. The new owner shared this picture, and we can’t get enough.
There is no indication of how old this fainting couch is, but the fabric looks relatively new. Perhaps the wooden frame is from the Victorian era, and the reupholstered fabric is from a more recent decade. Fainting couches aren’t exactly a common piece of furniture these days. Its new owner will definitely have a conversation starter with this thing!
#13: A Swan Steal

This beautiful glass swan lamp was an absolute steal. The new owner shared that they only paid $9 for it at their local Goodwill. That is an incredible price for something made entirely of glass. We have a feeling that it might be handmade, making it even more unique and valuable.
This steal of a deal shows that you never know what you might find. If you open your mind and heart to possibilities, you could go home with a new treasure. While this glass swan might not be everyone’s style, it is certainly beautiful. At least the new owner knows that no one else has this same exact thing in their home.
#15: A Victorian Moment

This antique piece of furniture is perfect for people who own old Victorian homes and like to read by candlelight. Oh, that’s not very many people, you say? Well, we still think the right person is out there for this elaborate vintage couch. Someone spotted this in a thrift store in Marietta, Georgia, and simply had to take a picture to share with the internet.
Although they didn’t buy this couch, they certainly appreciated the old-school charm. Everything about this couch is over the top. We don’t think it was considered understated when it was originally made, either. This powder blue couch is made to be seen. It’s dramatic and proud. The new owner should be just as dramatic, too.
#16: Out of This World

This has to be the wildest thrift item we’ve ever come across. No, your eyes do not deceive you. The person who took this picture is now the proud owner of a hot air balloon basket. The new owner shared that this balloon basket is from a 1974 Firefly hot air balloon. It looks incredible, but we can’t help but wonder how in the world this person got such an item.
According to our storyteller, they scored this unique thrift for free! Someone was giving this item away for free on Facebook Marketplace. Our storyteller jumped at the chance to have such a unique item in their home. They plan to make an indoor reading nook out of the basket, complete with a stained glass globe on top.
#18: A Disney Deal

Vintage Disney items are worth quite a bit of money. Many people are diehard fans and will pay a pretty penny for memorabilia from old movies. An unsuspecting thrifter found a ceramic figurine of Hyacinth Hippo from Fantasia at a resale shop in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They shared their find with the internet and were in for a big surprise.
They had no idea their thrift store find was a Disney character! They simply thought they were buying a statue of a cute hippo wearing a tutu. We have no idea how old this figurine is, but this unsuspecting shopper might have found a valuable antique that’s worth a lot of money. You never know what you might find while out and about at the thrift store.
#19: A Cozy Cottage Find

“Cottagecore” is a popular decor style. It involves lots of cute, cozy decor, bringing to mind woodland creatures and handmade, rustic items. This set of three ceramic jars is a perfect example. They are shaped like giant woodland mushrooms and have a retro ‘70s vibe.
To top it all off, the jars also have a smaller mushroom motif on the front. We can’t get enough of the mushroom-shaped handle, too. The person who found this set at their local thrift store is absolutely thrilled. They immediately washed these containers and set them up in their kitchen. The previous owner took good care of them.
#21: A DIY Twist

Some of the artwork at thrift stores is really random and somewhat drab. However, this thrift store lover saw a landscape painting at her local charity shop and envisioned what it could be transformed into. She bought it, took it home, and added her own twist to the whole thing.
She added a lively portrait of Michigan J. Frog, also known as the Warner Bros. cartoon character who famously sings “Hello! Ma Baby.” We love this hilarious way to dress up a drab thrift find. It shows that you can dress up just about anything you find at the thrift store to make it your own.
#22: Holy Macaroni!

There are certain things in life that we don’t realize we need until we see them with our own eyes. This neon macaroni sign is a perfect example of such an item. The person who bought this off of Facebook Marketplace had no idea that this would ring all their bells until they saw the listing online.
They couldn’t pass up the opportunity to own such a unique and weird piece of art. Facebook Marketplace is like the Wild West for thrifting. People have some pretty weird and wacky stuff in their homes. Thankfully, this thrifter is now part of the “weird and wacky” club. We’re sure they wouldn’t have it any other way.
#24: Are You Chicken?

Purse collectors might want to keep an eye out for this bag. Or maybe not. It depends on your style because this chicken bag isn’t for everyone. Someone spotted this unique purse at an antique mall. They didn’t buy it but had to take a photo to commemorate the strange find.
The $56 price tag for this chicken bag is pretty steep, especially considering that it’s probably not that old. The antique mall was probably trying to cash in on the uniqueness of this purse. Although this shopper chickened out of buying it, we’re sure someone out there snatched this up to carry around their eggs and other goodies.
#25: A Thrifted Gag Gift

The great thing about thrifting is that it’s pretty low stakes. You can find some pretty interesting items without spending a ton of money. The woman who found this strange statue bought it as a gag gift for her husband. She was intrigued by the odd shape and unique coloring and knew her husband would appreciate it.
You’re mistaken if you think this statue is made of wood. That’s what our storyteller thought, only to discover that it’s made of plaster and weighs a whopping thirteen pounds. Another possibility is that it’s made of petrified wood, which is much heavier than regular wood. One thing is for sure. This isn’t your average weird thrift store statue!
#27: An Impressive Collection

This person collects frames that they find at thrift stores, flea markets, and other secondhand outlets. They like to collect them, arrange them, and then rearrange them, and finally enjoy the fruits of their labor. We can’t blame them. Look at how awesome this wall looks. They really have an eye for it!
According to them, finding and arranging their different frames is a therapeutic hobby. It’s nice to have such a hobby that helps you relax and take your mind off things, especially when it’s a hobby that spruces up your house in such a way that the whole family can enjoy.
