With Halloween approaching, haunted houses are opening across Houston for those looking for a scare. The 13th Floor Haunted House opens on Sept. 13, kicking off a season of eerie attractions. From immersive scare zones to terrifying creatures, these venues are set to deliver plenty of chills.

According to its website, 13th Floor Haunted House Houston is listed among USA Today's "Top 5 Most Terrifying Haunted Houses in the USA." This year's lineup includes "Summer of Shadows," a cursed camp stalked by a masked killer; "Infestation," where a toxic leak creates insect-like mutants; and "Rise of the Kraken," a haunted voyage ruled by a monstrous sea captain. Guests can also step into a secret bar, race against the clock in mini escape games or battle actor zombies in "Zombie Apocalypse Live."

Houston Scream Fest

The annual Halloween festival offers unlimited entry to several haunted houses along with live music, carnival games, midway food and complimentary drinks. Attractions include "Sanitarium," where asylum patients take control; "Castle of Doom," a medieval maze with a disorienting vortex; "Casa de La Llorona," where the legendary weeping woman searches for her child; and "The Graveyard," filled with restless spirits. Admission also includes H-Town Paintball's "Nuketown," a life-size replica of the "Call of Duty" map. Paint is sold separately.

Phobia Haunted Houses

Phobia Haunted Houses features eight attractions designed to test every fear. Highlights include "Dawn of the Machine," a dystopian world where technology takes over; "Mind Control," a mental hospital gone awry; "Genetic Nightmare," filled with grotesque mutations; and "Clown Mania," a chaotic maze of color and twisted clowns. The "Exile" triple attraction features "Darke Institute," "Darke World" and "Contagion," each tied to the experiments of Dr. Phylo Darke. Visitors can also face "Savage Ground," an outdoor setting overrun by lurking creatures.

Haunted Trails

Haunted Trails has a new location this year, offering a trail-and-hayride experience through the dark woods. Visitors can expect eerie scenes, frightening creatures and "ghostly spirits" along the path.

Phobia Haunted Houses Kemah

Phobia Haunted Houses at Kemah Boardwalk is the home of two attractions, Doom and Darke Labs, packed with actors and custom animatronics.

Houston Terror Dome

Houston Terror Dome features haunted houses that engage all the senses, with clown zombies, a spinning vortex, a butcher's shop, swamp scenes and 3D rooms. Guests can also try UV paintball, axe throwing and escape rooms, with a pumpkin patch, haunted selfie bar and gift shop rounding out the experience.

Purgatory Scream Park

Purgatory Scream Park spans more than 27,000 square feet with four haunted attractions. "The Kingwood Asylum" traps guests in a nightmare of flickering lights and unseen hunters, while "Asphyxia" winds through suffocating corridors where the walls seem to close in. "Dead Wood" leads visitors into a forest alive with sinister whispers, and "Hysteria" transforms a carnival midway into a maze of sinister clowns and twisted games.

Creepy Hollow

Creepy Hollow's 288 Scare Factory leads visitors through laboratories where experiments have gone wrong. Other attractions include "Dark Wood Swamp," a forest poisoned by waste and stalked by a scarred caretaker; "Pitch Black," a containment facility for unstable test subjects; and "Freak Show," filled with twisted performers.

Redrum Fear Park

Redrum Fear Park includes a variety of nightmare-fueled attractions, including the "3D Twisted Circus," "Cinegore," "Deadwood Asylum," and "The Purge Anarchy," a laser tag experiment that has been completely re-imagined for the 2025 haunt season.

Haunted Drive

Haunted Drive combines multiple attractions into one experience. The Haunted Maze covers more than 10,000 square feet of dark twists and turns, while the drive-thru haunt spans 1.5 miles of scares billed as the "deadliest drive." Guests can also face the Michael Myers Challenge, ride a haunted hayride or attempt an escape room set inside Crystal Lake.
