The Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival

Union Avenue Historic District, Downtown Pueblo | Sept. 19-21 | 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday | The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and Visit Pueblo will host the 31st Annual Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival in Downtown Pueblo. Since 1994, this beloved celebration has honored Pueblo’s world-famous green chile while spotlighting local farmers, fresh produce, and small businesses across the region. Special events include a kickoff concert party, the Chile & Salsa Showdown, the Chihuahua & Friends Parade, a jalapeño eating contest, and the Pueblo Chile Balloon Fest. George Lopez at Pueblo Memorial Hall

1 City Hall Place | Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m. | Renowned stand-up comedian George Lopez takes the stage at Pueblo Memorial Hall for a special, one-night-only performance. Because Lopez's performance comes during the annual Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival, all tickets purchased will include entry into the festival. Back to School public train ride at the Pueblo Railway Museum

200 W B St.| 11 a.m.-3 p.m. | Join the museum for a public train ride event behind the Pueblo Union Depot. Tickets are $15 for a ride in the engine and $10 for a ride in one of the cabooses. Children under 3 ride the train free. Cash or check preferred, but credit cards accepted. Train ride tickets can only be purchased during the event. Purchase tickets at the gift shop, a converted caboose behind the Union Depot, near the passenger boarding area. Trains depart every 20 minutes, so there will be multiple opportunities during the event to ride the train. There is no admission fee to attend the event itself; the charge is only for the train ride.

All Pueblo Sings at the Center for Inner Peace

740 W. 15th St. | 2-3 p.m. | Join All Pueblo Sings for a community sing-along open to the public, all ages and families. The sing-along is held at the Center for Inner Peace but is not a church event. For details, call Al Colletti at 719-744-9315 or Marcia Beachy at 719-542-0156.

Wednesday, Sept. 24

Goth Yoga and Polyam Meet-Up events at The Ethos

615 E. Mesa Ave. | 6-8 p.m. for the meet up, 8-9 p.m. for Goth Yoga | The Polyamorous Meet-Up night is held the last Wednesday of every month. All polycules and poly singles are welcome for the free event to mingle with like-minded folk, play a board game, or chat over a tasty beverage. For ages 18 and older. The yoga is an immersive night of movement and bone-chilling music. Bring a yoga mat and towel. Cost is $10 per person.

Author Ernesto Sagás at Pueblo Community College

Orman Ave., Hoag Theater | noon-1 p.m. | In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, PCC welcomes Colorado State University Fort Collins professor Ernesto Sagás as he discusses his book “Latino Colorado: The Struggle for Equality in the Centennial State.” He will examine the challenges and successes of Latinos in Colorado from the 19th century to the present. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Queertastic Halloween Book Faire & Silent Book Club at The Ethos

Mesa Ave. | 5-8 p.m. for the book fair, 6-8 p.m. for Silent Book Club |Join The Ethos for some spooky queer fun at the Queertastic Halloween Book Faire, featuring a costume contest, spooky queer reads, button making, and library card sign-up. 'Raquel’s Purple Pineapple Adventures' at Sangre de Cristo Arts Center

210 N. Santa Fe Ave | 1-3 p.m. | Creede Repertory Theatre's Young Audience Outreach Tour celebrates its 42nd season with “Raquel’s Purple Pineapple Adventures” – the story of 10-year-old Raquel who goes, against her will, to summer school in order to improve her reading skills. The show features a book and lyrics by Noemi de la Puente, and music by Fernanda Douglas. It is free to student groups in kindergarten through sixth grade for the 1 p.m. show on Sept. 25. Freethought Friday Social at First Unitarian Society

110 Calla Ave. | 7 p.m. | Pueblo Humanists, a secular community, will gather for its monthly Freethought Friday social for refreshments and conversation. Members and guests are welcome to bring snacks, soft drinks, or adult beverages to share. The building is handicap accessible. The group also meets on the second Thursday of the month at a different location to hear a speaker and discuss the topic. Spiritual Alchemy Through Art and Writing Workshop at the Buell Children’s Museum

210 N. Santa Fe Ave.| 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. | This one-day workshop is presented by award-winning author and artist Vickie Leigh Krudwig. The workshop will help participants understand the connection between the arts and spirituality and unlock their greatest creative potential through a variety of hands-on activities, as well as deal effectively with the inner critic. 'Witch Trials: Accusation to Exoneration' exhibit at Pueblo Community College

900 W. Orman Ave., Library | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday through Oct. 31 | What does it mean to be called a witch? This thought-provoking exhibit explores the dark history of witch trials and how fear, rumor and misinformation fueled centuries of persecution. Through powerful posters and curated articles, unpack the historical and modern-day myths surrounding witches. Discover how accusations destroyed lives and how communities are confronting and correcting the past. The exhibit continues throughout October in the PCC Library. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Lit Happens Book Club: 'The Violin Conspiracy' at The Ethos

615 E. Mesa Ave. | 6-7 p.m. | When a rising Black classical musician’s priceless violin is stolen just before a major competition, he must untangle a web of secrets and racism to get it back. A compelling mystery with heart and high stakes is the focus of this book club event.

PCC Block Party at Pueblo Community College

900 W. Orman Ave., courtyard | 10 a.m.-4 p.m. | PCC students and the community are invited to the school’s free celebration of its people and culture as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. Enjoy music, games, a lowrider car and motorcycle show and more. Food trucks will be on site. Current PCC students eat free and can register to win one of five $1,000 scholarships.
