Princess of Wales opens up about 'very messy' kitchen experiment with her kids

Before picking apples from Long Meadow Farm's orchard during their trip to Northern Ireland on Tuesday, Kate and Prince William were shown the farm's apple pressing machine.

The mum-of-three revealed she and kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis had previously tried to make their own apple juice at home.

The Princess of Wales gave fans an insight into the Wales family home during a recent engagement.

"We tried this at home with a hand press," Kate said.

"It was quite good fun with the children. It was very messy."

The McKeever family, who have owned the orchard for three generations, have been making cider, apple juice and apple cider vinegar since 1968.

They also provided the royal couple with some of the apple cider vinegar to try, with the Princess of Wales again revealing details about the family kitchen.

The mum-of-three revealed she and kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis had previously tried to make their own apple juice at home.

"I like that," she said sipping the liquid from the glass.

"I haven't taken it as shot like this before but I love to put it salads and things like that."

Like any husband and wife duo, Kate then turned to William and informed him he's had this before at home.

"I put it on the food at home," she said.

While at the orchard the ever competitive pair took part in a cooking demonstration, learning to make potato apple bread.

As the Princess of Wales trailed behind Prince William, he quipped with a laugh: "Do keep up".

During the surprise visit to Northern Ireland, the Prince and Princess of Wales also visited the flax-growing Mallon Farm in Co Tyrone to learn about how the fibers are turned into fabric.

The couple also took part in training exercises at Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service's Learning and Development College in Cookstown.
