Tennessee is known for having some famous cities, but the ones on this list have a claim to fame of their own even though you may not be that familiar with them.

The list is meant to reflect Tennessee's distinctiveness outside of major cities like Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville.

Jonesborough in East Tennessee leads WorldAtlas' list and is home to the International Storytelling Center and the annual National Storytelling Festival in October. The city is also home to the Tennessee Hills Distillery where visitors can visit for tastings.

The list suggests a stop at the Washington County/Jonesborough History Museum or Chester Inn Museum to get a glimpse into the area's history.

Granville, Jackson County

Granville, in Middle Tennessee, gets a spot on the list thanks to its nickname "Tennessee's Mayberry Town" because it will remind visitors of the community in "The Andy Griffith Show." A national squad car display, look-alike competitions, dinner performances, and special celebrity visits are all part of the town's annual "Mayberry-I Love Lucy Festival," which takes place every spring.

Throughout the year, visitors can stop by the Mayberry-I Love Lucy Museum and the T.B. Sutton General Store which has been in operation since the 1800s.

Tracy City, Grundy County

Tracy City, on the border of Middle and East Tennessee, is home to the state's oldest bakery, Dutch Maid Bakery, which has been in operation since 1902. Also in town are other restaurants such as Annex Cafe, Rosie's Farmhouse Kitchen and Potbellies Family Restaurant.

Tracy City is also near to the Grundy Forest Day Loop which is a two-mile walk that takes you past waterfalls, rock formations and ancient trees.

McMinnville, Warren County

McMinnville is the Middle Tennessee center for gardening. Visitors from all over the state stop by to visit spots like Cedarwood Nursery, Hale & Hines Nursery or Warren County Nursery. There is also the seasonal ice rink that lasts through Dec. 31 each year.

The historic Park Theater has been operating since 1939 and puts on frequent musicals, concerts, and plays.

Sewanee, Franklin County

Sewanee in East Tennessee is a college town home to Sewanee: The University Of The South. On the University's campus, there is a section that spans over 13,000 acres. Visitors can bike or hike over 65 miles of trails.

Lynchburg, Moore County

Lynchburg, in Middle Tennessee, is best known as the home of the Jack Daniel's Distillery. This is the oldest registered distillery in the county where over 250,000 visitors stop by annually. Guests can tour the facility, learn about the whiskey-making process and sample six distinctive varieties of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

The town square features restaurants, boutiques and historic landmarks like the 19th-century Moore County Courthouse and the Moore County Old Jail Museum.

Leiper's Fork, Williamson County

Leiper's Fork, in Middle Tennessee, is home to an eclectic mix of southern cottages, country music, art galleries and distilleries.

Leiper’s Fork Distillery is an artisan distillery that produces small-batch spirits and has a tasting room for visitors in a restored home 1829 home. Visitors are encouraged to stay in vacation homes such as the Brigadoon Cottage in the Fork, Sweeney Cottage, and Gratidude Ranch.
