Some flights connecting Mexico to the US have been cut
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Thirteen flight routes connecting Mexico to the United States have been cut as part of a crackdown over what the Trump Administration says is a violation of an air transport agreement.
Earlier this week, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the cancellations of passenger and cargo flights between the U.S. and Mexico City’s International Airport, affecting routes operated by Mexican airlines AeroMexico, Volaris, and Viva Aerobus.
Duffy accused Mexico of illegally canceling and freezing U.S. carrier flights for three years without consequences. He added that Mexico’s airlines were still adding new routes and services from Mexico to the U.S.
Viva Aerobus issued a statement saying it will be the most affected especially ahead of the holiday season with routes canceled from Mexico city to cities like:
- Austin and Dallas (Texas)
- Denver (Colorado)
- New York City (New York)
- Chicago (Illinois)
- Los Angeles (California)
- Miami and Orlando (Florida)
Viva Aerobus did note that flights from other Mexican airports to the United States remain unaffected.
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico will seek a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to clarify the motives behind the cancellations.
American travelers affected by the new order are urged to contact their airlines for rebooking.
