Passenger speaks out after plane heading to Cleveland collides with aircraft on Houston runway

HOUSTON (WJW) – A plane getting set to leave Houston to head to Cleveland had to stop after a collision with another plane Tuesday night.

The collision happened while the plane was leaving George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Avon Lake resident Randi Muck told FOX 8 that everything was on time and normal until the planes collided.

Muck said she was sitting in the second to last row with only a woman from Canton behind her. She said that woman is the hero of this story.

As their plane was backing out, they hit another plane, but Muck said it seemed like only people in the back of the plane felt it.

That’s when the Canton woman kept hitting the call button and continuously told flight attendants she was not comfortable with that plane leaving the ground until they stopped and checked on it.

The belief was that a small part of the wing on their plane broke off.

Muck said it was a long night and she hasn’t received her belongings yet. She said maybe the plane would have been fine, but she would rather deal with those headaches and know for sure.

“It felt like we had run over something heavy. That’s what it felt like. All of us in the back of the plane were like ‘What was that?’ and then the lady behind me was like, ‘Did you guys see it? Did you see the piece of the plane that fell off?’ and we were like ‘No!'” Muck said. “The suitcase probably isn’t coming home and you’re going to be late, but as long as we get home safely that’s all that matters.”

United Airlines confirmed Flight UA-544 heading from Houston to Cleveland made contact with Flight UA-2451 heading to Orlando after that plane stopped after pushing back from the gate.

In a statement, the airlines said both planes de-planed normally, there were no injuries and they arranged new aircraft to get those passengers to their destination.

There has been no confirmation on the actual damage to either plane.
