Texas Roadhouse to relocate first Louisville location. Here's where to find it
An iconic Louisville company is replacing the first restaurant location it opened in its hometown.
Texas Roadhouse plans to close its location at 3322 Outer Loop and build a new, 9,900-square-foot location across the street at 3201 Brooke Elizabeth Way.
The Outer Loop location opened in July 1996 and was the company’s first Louisville location.
It served as a prototype for future Texas Roadhouse locations, marked by distinctive elements such as the two exterior peaks topped by flags.
Founder Kent Taylor, despite the name of his company, opened the first Texas Roadhouse restaurant in 1993 in Clarksville, Indiana, at the Green Tree Mall. It has since grown to more than 600 locations across 49 states.
The Outer Loop restaurant, the company’s eighth overall restaurant to open, has seen improvements through the years. Company leaders were weighing a kitchen remodel, but those costs proved greater than the cost of an entire new restaurant.
Along with the inevitable service disruptions that would come with a remodel, leadership decided to say goodbye to its first Louisville restaurant.
Parking, as well as entry and exit, are expected to improve at the new location, which is currently a nearly 3.5-acre piece of undeveloped land.

The new location will have a 460-square-foot outdoor dining patio and accommodate 224 vehicles, according to building plans filed with Louisville’s Office of Planning.
A company representative declined to provide a cost estimate for its new location and did not share a timeline for its construction, though the Outer Loop location is expected to remain open until the new location opens.
