Beloved Walnut Creek Yacht Club might now have found its replacement
(KRON) — After being a fixture in downtown for nearly three decades, Walnut Creek Yacht Club shuttered its doors for good in May. Co-owners Ellen McCarty and Kevin Weinberg closed the business after 28 years,
There are now plans to replace the restaurant space on 1555 Bonanza St. This upcoming establishment could fill the void left by the Walnut Creek Yacht Club, which will also be a seafood restaurant.
The Ghaben family has submitted plans to the city to open Oceania Fish Bar, KRON4 has confirmed. The Ghabens are a local restaurant family with a decades-long record of running restaurants in the area, including Lita, Broderick Roadhouse and Original Mel’s.
The restaurant will not only take over the Walnut Creek Yacht Club space on Bonanza and Locust. In addition, the Ghabens plan to expand by 1,360 square feet to the existing restaurant space, which includes expanded outdoor seating.

As of now, the Oceania Fish Bar project is still pending city approval. It is unknown when exactly Walnut Creek city officials will discuss and approve the proposal for construction.
However, the next steps, according to the city, would be for the planning commission to review the project. That will “likely be this spring,” Walnut Creek Economic Development Manager Mike Nimon tells KRON4.
The city received the Oceania Fish Bar proposal on Dec. 1, according to Nimon. The planning division completed its first round of review on the project. That review is separate from the planning commission’s.
If approved, construction will begin next year with an opening likely in 2027, the Ghaben family has confirmed to KRON4.
In other news in the Walnut Creek dining and nightlife scene, the highly anticipated opening of Calicraft Upstairs was pushed back once again. The opening date for the rooftop cocktail bar is now set for Dec. 20.
