These 3 Delaware buildings named most beautiful, overlooked in US
Stunning views are what usually draw people to an area, but beautiful architecture puts in work on that front, too.
While skyscrapers in big cities might be what immediately comes to mind when thinking of eye-catching public structures, there are plenty of overlooked buildings around the nation with admirable craftmanship.
Including a few in the First State, according to a new national poll.

Love vs. Design, an interior design company, surveyed 3,014 respondents to find out which public buildings across the United States are considered beautiful yet constantly overlooked. The results highlighted a variety of designs, with buildings of all sizes, materials, settings and uses said to be worthy of Instagram spotlights and appearances in guidebooks.
Among the top 10 most beautiful public buildings in the U.S. is a familiar Delaware staple.
The New Castle Court House Museum in New Castle ranked No. 6. The building feels like a preserved moment in early American life, according to Love vs. Design, featuring Flemish bond brickwork, a hipped roof and tall, multi-pane windows giving it a “firm, Georgian presence.”
The structure’s small tower also received a nod for adding a “hint of formality without overpowering the scale.” It is described as a modest structure by modern standards, but its composure and craftsmanship seal its title as “one of the most characterful courthouses on the East Coast.”
The rest of the top 10 most beautiful public buildings in the U.S. are:
- Hot Springs National Park Administration Building in Hot Springs, Arkansas, at No. 1
- Wailuku Public Library in the Wailuku Civic Center Historic District in Wailuku, Hawaii, at No. 2
- Museum of Art Fort Collins, formerly a post office, in Fort Collins, Colorado, at No. 3
- Old Fayette County Courthouse (historic section) in Lexington, Kentucky, at No. 4
- Clark County Courthouse (historic building), in Vancouver, Washington, at No. 5
- Riverside County Historic Courthouse in Riverside, California, at No. 7
- Pueblo County Courthouse in Pueblo, Colorado, at No. 8
- Hilo Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Hilo Island, Hawaii, at No. 9

Sussex County Courthouse is home to Superior Court and Court of Common Pleas.
Beyond the top spots, two more Delaware buildings stuck out in the results.
Sussex County Courthouse in Georgetown is ranked No. 44. Its calm, small-town elegance comes through in the warm brick, white trim and a balanced facade that “feels both traditional and quietly refined,” according to Love vs. Design.
The building is located on The Circle, making the structure feel welcoming during the moments the soft morning light hits it.
The Old State House in Dover is ranked No. 61. Love vs. Design describes it as blending Georgian lines with “just enough ornament to catch the eye” without being overwhelming. Fanlight windows and mellow brick create a welcoming, warm presence, with the wood paneling interior giving it an “intimate, almost handcrafted feel.”
The building’s appeal seems modest at first glance before quietly growing on you, according to Love vs. Design.
