Grand Haven hosts downtown winter wine trail

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — On Friday, visitors to downtown Grand Haven can enjoy an evening of wine tastings during the 16th annual Wine About Winter, a community event hosted by the Grand Haven Main Street Downtown Development Authority.

“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Chandi Pape, executive director of the Grand Haven Main Street Downtown Development Authority, said. “It helps us do … beautification of the downtown, as well as business support and grants.”

Across nearly 20 venues, attendees can sample a wide variety of wine styles and flavors from over 35 wines provided by Fortino’s, a local gourmet grocery store.

“It’s one of our most well-attended events, especially during the off-season for locals,” Pape said. “It’s just a lot of fun.”

Beginning at 5 p.m., visitors can explore participating venues — including Harbourfront Place, Borr’s Shoes & Accessories, The Book Cellar and more — while enjoying two-ounce wine pours for $4 each.

To participate in the event and receive those $4 wine pours, guests will need to acquire an official tasting glass.

“It’s a great memorable keepsake that you get to have,” Pape said. “The glasses are $5 each.”

Throughout downtown Grand Haven, attendees of Wine About Winter can enjoy heated sidewalks and frequent downtown shuttles between venues.

“Get out and have a good time,” Pape said.
