Keen traveller reveals the five bucket-list destinations he was left disappointed by
Travel enthusiast Andre Neveling has ventured to 40 different countries all around the world.
While many of the destinations he's holidayed in might be high on most people's bucket lists, not every location has lived up to the hype.
Andre wasn't too impressed by Paris and despite it being known as the city of romance and love, it didn't manage to create a fairy tale experience for the travel writer.
He explains in Business Insider how the reality of seeing the Eiffel Tower - the capital's 1,083ft landmark - fell flat.
The traveller faced long queues, hordes of crowds and security checks to get close to the attraction.
To make matters worse, when he reached the top he experienced bad vertigo and had to hold on tight to the railing.
'How a city's people could be so blatantly ill-mannered toward foreign tourists blew my mind,' Andre writes, reflecting on his experience of 'Parisian rudeness'.
Elsewhere, Bali didn't prove to be the white sand, dreamy paradise he was looking for either.

Despite being portrayed as a dreamy destination, Andre experienced masses of overtourism in Bali

The intense heat and scams in Cairo didn't prove to be enjoyable for Andre either, though he did appreciate the pyramids
Describing scenes of overtourism, Andre says he witnessed endless traffic and tourist trends ruining authentic experiences.
He sums up his time in Bali as, 'a beautiful island where authenticity often feels sacrificed by an almost cultlike, spiritual aesthetic'.
Andre found himself quickly disappointed by Cairo too when he visited back in 2010.
Although he managed to enjoy the jaw-dropping views of the Pyramids of Giza, his view of the bucket-list spot was tainted the moment he left the airport.
The traveller was hit with intensely hot weather and an 'overwhelming frenzy' of scams and pollution.
Chiang Mai, in Thailand, also left Andre 'underwhelmed' when he ventured to the city back in 2023.
Though he loves Thailand, he found there wasn't much to explore in Chiang Mai apart from the impressive temples.
He described it as 'sleepy' and 'dull' overall.

For Andre, Hollywood didn't quite live up to the movies and the iconic sign proved difficult to photograph too
As for Hollywood, Andre found it was nothing like what he has seen in the movies.
He struggled to find the glamour depicted on screen and instead saw poverty and crime.
The crowds of tourists were off-putting too, and he found it hard seeing homeless people.
To make matters worse, the iconic Hollywood sign proved difficult to capture on camera.
