Portland’s Kann is bringing Michelin-starred cuisine to the city with new collaborations

PORTLAND, Ore (KOIN) — Although the Rose City cannot boast a Michelin-starred business quite yet, an acclaimed Portland dining spot is bringing in restaurants with the prestigious accolade.

On Friday, Apr. 3, each floor of the James Beard Award-winning Kann will offer culinary collaborations with three different New York City eateries: Atomix, Atoboy and NARO.

Husband-and-wife duo Junghyun Park and Ellia Park own each of the Korean-inspired restaurants, with Atoboy and Atomix opening in 2016 and 2018, respectively. Both businesses have been recognized by the Michelin Guide, while the newest of the two has also been recognized among the 50 Best Restaurants in North America and across the globe.

The Parks’ latest venture, NARO, has been recognized by 50 Best Discovery as well.

The couple’s upcoming collaborations with Kann have been dubbed “HanSang,” which represents “the idea of one full table, where multiple dishes arrive together, meant to be shared,” according to the Haitian restaurant.

“There is a quiet but powerful connection between Korea and Haiti, one rooted in resilience, survival, and the ability to create abundance even in scarcity,” a press release for the partnership states. “Both cultures understand food not just as nourishment, but as protection, memory, and love. A full table has always meant safety. Sharing has always preserved community.”

From Friday, Apr. 3 through Sunday, Apr. 5, the Atoboy collaboration will be held in the same space hosting Kann Chef Gregory Gourdet’s ongoing partnership with Bryan Furman BBQ.

Furman, a celebrated Georgia “pitmaster,” will join Gourdet and Atoboy in fusing “American, Caribbean, and Korean BBQ together in a soulful, high-energy collaboration” that does not require reservations.

Meanwhile, Kann’s main dining room will host the Atomix collaboration featuring a multi-course tasting menu. The Portland restaurant’s private dining room will host the partnership with NARO, which will serve the fusion dishes family-style.

Reservations for both experiences have already sold out through Resy, but interested diners can be notified if spots open up.
