Visit Natural Bridge, a 78-foot long sandstone phenomenon in Kentucky
Nature has spent millions of years carving out the natural sandstone arch that is the focal point of Kentucky’s Natural Bridge State Park. This natural wonder is located adjacent to the Daniel Boone National Forest and near the Red River Gorge Geological Area. This phenomenon spans 78 feet and is 65 feet high and is a popular hiking spot. At the same time, Natural Bridge’s sweeping views also cater to the less athletic crowd. Guests of all ages and abilities are invited to ride a sky lift to the top of the bridge to see the forest view from a wildly unique vantage point.

Why it matters
Natural Bridge existed in Kentucky well before Indigenous people ever walked this land, and certainly before Europeans created the first settlement at Fort Harrod in 1774 just two years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Kentucky, eventually, became the 15th state, but initially the natural marvel was part of Virginia's Kentucky County.
What to see today
Visitors have their choice of hiking to the top of Natural Bridge or taking a leisurely ride on a sky lift over the trees and to the top. Once on the bridge, visitors can take in a breathtaking, panoramic view the Daniel Boone National Forest. This spot is always a stunner, but it's particularly glorious during autumn when the leaves change the landscape to swirling palette of green, yellow, orange and red.
Ask a local
The area around Natural Bridge has blossomed throughout the last 20 years to accommodate tourists, but Miguel's Pizza, 1890 Natural Bridge Road, has been a hotspot for long-time climbers and hikers since the 1980s. This fan favorite is located in what was once a 1940s-era general store, and it offers a variety of artisan and traditional pizzas as well as gluten free and vegan options.
