2 popular El Paso bars are closing their doors permanently
Two well-known El Paso bars have announced they are closing their doors permanently.
The owners of Papa Doble, a chic cocktail bar at 3029 Pershing Drive, announced Tuesday, April 14, on their Instagram page that the final days of business will be Thursday and Friday, April 16-17.
Papa Doble in Central El Paso is located at 3029 Pershing.
The bar, built inside a refurbished 100-year-old home in Five Points, was known for great jazz and cocktails. The bar decor paid tribute to novelist Ernest Hemingway.
Albert Perez, who owned the bar with his wife Ivonne, said "We have been amazed by the reaction to the closing. Papa Doble has meant so much to us, and this wasn’t an easy decision. After many years in the industry, we’ve reached a point where we want to be more intentional with our time and put more focus on our families."
"We’re not stepping away—just narrowing our focus. By concentrating on Aviators and Wall Street Lounge, we’re able to keep doing what we love while creating a better balance in our lives. We’re incredibly proud of what Papa Doble became and the community that formed around it. We’re grateful for every guest, every night, and every memory that was made there."
Perez said Aviators is approaching its 10th year at Central El Paso. And Wall Street Lounge is growing.
Papa Doble, 3029 Pershing, was a fun cocktail bar for mature adults, with great drinks like the Cantarito with 1800 Silver Tequila.
Rockhouse Bar and Grill closes
The Rockhouse Bar and Grill, at 9828 Montana Ave., announced April 8 that it would be closing.
A Facebook post for the business stated the owner had health issues and would no longer be able to maintain it open.
"To every staff member, past and present - thank you. Your energy, your laughs, you late nights, and the way you made everyone feel at home is what make Rockhouse more than just a bar. You were the heartbeat of it all," the post stated.
The dive bar had been an iconic place for the rock and metal scene in El Paso as far back as 2011.
