Disney World Making Plans for 5th Orlando Theme Park — Plus Everything Else New Development Docs Reveal

Disney has made the necessary arrangements to develop a new "major theme park" and two "minor" parks as well as many more additions

Disney World is never done! New planning documents are revealing what could be coming next.

Twenty-seven years after their last major Florida park opening — Animal Kingdom in 1998 — Disney fans are buzzing about the potential for a new one.

According to documents released by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) and viewed by PEOPLE, Disney has made the necessary arrangements to develop a new "major theme park" and two additional "minor" parks as well as new resort hotels, additional shopping and dining areas and a golf course at its Orlando Resort.

In total, the prospective area to be developed totals 2,629 acres. The "major" park is projected to be 500 acres while the "minor" parks would be 300 acres, both of those are up significantly from previous estimates.

The report isn't the first park watchers have heard of a potential fifth park. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the CFTOD agreed to allow Disney to move forward with its plans to invest up to $17 billion in Orlando in July 2024, which included plans for the new parks, hotels and more.

Disney parks fans shouldn't hold their breath for any major announcements. The plan is for new additions for the next twenty years, until 2045.

At the Disney Experiences showcase at D23 in August 2024, it was announced that a Monsters Inc. land will be coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios. There, a ride that travels through the door factory from the film will mark the first-ever suspended coaster for a Disney park.

A Disney Villains Land is coming to the Magic Kingdom with two major attractions, dining, and shopping.

Disney Imagineers previously announced plans to create a Tropical Americas-themed expansion of Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World, which will replace the Dino-Land U.S.A. area.
