Colorado restaurant among ‘Top 100 Taco Spots’ in the US: Yelp reviewers

(SavorNation) – Americans can find tasty tacos in nearly every nook and cranny of the country, The best tacos are harder to find, but luckily for Coloradans, one local eatery has been repeatedly recognized for having some of the best tacos in the U.S.

An analysis of Yelp’s restaurant reviews has revealed the platform’s 100 top-ranked taco joints, and a single Colorado restaurant made the list.

Tacos Aya Yay, located at 1206 Centaur Village Dr. in Lafayette, has hundreds of rave reviews on Yelp. The restaurant’s website describes it as a “hidden gem” that caters to both locals and visitors, with every bite bringing a “tase to true Mexican heritage and culture.”

Chef José Pantoja and his wife Emily Martinez are from the Mexican states of Jalisco and Zacatecas, according to Yelp, which said the two have brought a “particular taco style” to their restaurant.

The menu features various customizable tacos and burritos that can be bought in singles or in meal and combo choices. A person can get full off $10 and can get a full combo meal for under $15.

“Tacos Aya Yay isn’t just a meal – it’s a fiesta for your senses that will leave you craving more,” one Yelp reviewer wrote.

The restaurant was also named the best restaurant for tacos in Colorado by Yelp last year and was listed in the review platforms top 100 in 2022.

If you need another excuse to treat yourself to some tacos, here’s one: National Taco Day falls on the first Tuesday of October, happening this year on Oct. 7.

Almost half the restaurants on this year’s list can be found in California — with dozens in SoCal alone.

Birrieria Familia Castro in North Hollywood sits at the top of Yelp’s 2025 ranking of the “Top 100 Taco Spots” in America. Specializing in birria tacos and handmade tortillas, patrons have described this restaurant as a “hidden gem” with “exceptional” food and service.

“If you’re craving some bomb juicy birria this is the place to go!” one reviewer wrote earlier this year.

“You will not be disappointed,” another said.

Can’t make it to California for lunch? Yelp’s rankings also include well-reviewed taco shops across 18 other states. Aside from California, those with the most entries include Texas (the Lone Star State boasts nine of the top 100), Arizona (eight) and Hawaii (seven).
