Louisville brewery to close its taproom after four years in business. What to know

"This space has meant everything to us — it's been a gathering place where our team built genuine connections with this community, hosted unforgettable events, and shared our passion for great beer," read the post from Oct. 13. "Our bar staff poured their hearts into creating something special here, and we're forever grateful to everyone who walked through that door."

When Hi-Wire opened at 642 Baxter Ave. in Aug. 2021, the 5,500-square-foot space was an exciting, neon-clad addition to the Highlands, complete with a bar with 21 taps and family-friendly activities like pool, table tennis, foosball and shuffleboard. Just a few months later, in December, Goodfellas Pizzeria opened nearby at the bustling intersection of Baxter Avenue and Broadway.

Cans of beer sit waiting for distribution April 9, 2025, at Hi-Wire Brewing in Asheville.

Hi-Wire Brewing was founded in 2013 and now has seven taprooms, including one in Knoxville, Tennessee and others in North Carolina.

Before closing this weekend, the brewery will offer $2 draft pints, $5 packaged beer to-go, and 50% off merchandise.

"Thank you, Louisville!" the post concluded. "You'll always have a place in our story."

It's not the first brewery on Baxter Avenue to announce a move this year. Gravely Brewing, located less than half a mile from Hi-Wire, plans to soon close its location at 514 Baxter Ave. and move to 905 E. Main St. in the heart of NuLu. That move is expected to happen before the end of 2025.
