Are you ready for Día de los Muertos? Here’s where to buy flowers in LA

It’s that time of year to celebrate the lives of those who've died. Día de los Muertos is when people celebrate and remember family members, close friends, pets, and even those we’ve never met in person.

It’s celebrated between Nov. 1 and 2, and pets have their own special day on Oct. 27.

Of course, bright Marigolds, also known as Cempasúchil, are a tradition for the holiday and can be found all around Los Angeles. From local shops to last minute locations, here's our list of places to buy them for Día de los Muertos.

La Mayordomia 2

In the corner of this small strip of shops you’ll find at the entrance hundreds of fresh Cempasúchil in front of this local Oaxacan store. La Mayordomia 2 also provides plenty of pastries and produce. Parking lot spaces are limited, but there’s usually plenty of street parking.

Latinx With Plants

You can find Latinx With Plants in Boyle Heights where every year the nursery offers fresh marigolds and flower crowns made with cempasúchils. It is best to preorder those. You'll also find a variety of plants and fun terra cotta pots, adorned with Latin idols Juan Gabriel and Bad Bunny.

Flowers El Ranchito

Bixby Petals

If you're in the South Bay, check out Bixby Petals in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach. The flower shop serves bundles of marigolds from $5 to $10.

Sánchez Produce

This small family owned business has operated a field of cempasúchil for over two decades. On Nov. 1, Sánchez Produce will also have their annual blessing of their ofrenda ceremony, which includes traditional Aztec dancers. Their Instagram has all the information about parking, prices, and more. It’s cash only!

Local street vendors

You’ll find vendors selling marigolds in bouquets or in bulk around Los Angeles. In Boyle Heights, floral vendors can usually be found off East 4th Street between South Lorena and South Indiana Streets. These vendors cater to the Eastside community for big holidays, according to our partners at Boyle Heights Beat.

The historic district is full of local shops selling Marigolds.

Last minute finds

Anyone who might be short on time can likely find some Marigolds at your neighborhood Trader Joes or nearby Vallarta Supermarket for potted marigolds. Costco is also offering them in buckets for about $15.
