Princess Catharina-Amalia Borrows Valentino Cape from Her Mom Queen Máxima

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, one of the most stylish royal women working today, has an enviable wardrobe—and her daughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia (also known just as “Princess Amalia”), knows it.

Yesterday, the heir to the Dutch throne attended a special session of the States General in the Grote Kerk alongside her father, King Willem-Alexander.

Her outfit—a burgundy Valentino cape and a red Natan Couture dress—was immediately familiar to royal watchers, as her mom Queen Máxima had worn the exact same one four years earlier. The Princess of Orange, however, did not wear the same belt as her mom, or the dramatic hat, instead choosing to accessorize with a delicate gold necklace and LOTT.gioielli earrings.

Plus, Queen Máxima wore the elegant Valentino cape earlier this week, to welcome the new Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg on their State Visit to the Netherlands.

It’s not Amalia’s first time wearing this maroon cape coat; she also wore it for the abdication of Grand Duke Henri and the inauguration of Grand Duke Guillaume in Luxembourg.

The 21-year-old princess frequently borrows clothes from Queen Máxima’s closet. In fact, in late October, for a concert celebrating the 750th year of official existence at the Museumplein, Princess Amalia wore a green Theresia Vreugdenhil gown that her mom had previously worn. The dress was actually a family heirloom, originally worn by Queen Beatrix on a state visit to Belgium in 1981.

Princess Catharina-Amalia is currently enrolled in the bachelor’s program in Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam. At the same time, per the Dutch royal family, she is participating in a two-year part-time military work and study program at Defensity College.
