CLEVELAND, Ohio – A handful of restaurants, bars, breweries and other dining and drinks spots shut their doors this year.
Few places were immune from the spate of closures – brewpubs to burger joints, Italian, Asian and more.
Our annual lists bids adieu to the places that closed.

It was the end of an era for Melt's original location in Lakewood.
AVON: Cork and Barrel
AVON: Railroad Brewing Co.
The brewery opened in 2017 less than half a mile north of Interstate 90 with a 10-barrel system on Center Road in Avon and added a location nearby on the same road in 2023. But “changing circumstances” in the lives of owners Tom and Christy Wagner led to the brewery shutting its doors. (A year before Railroad opened the owners talked to cleveland.com about the challenges involved in planning a brewery.)

Owner Chris Kambouris announced in September he had decided to close the brewery, which opened in 2018. Kambouris had previously worked at The Brew Kettle and at Mt. Carmel Brewing Co. in Cincinnati. The Colorado Avenue space was filled with an eclectic mix of décor. It touted itself as Lorain’s first brewery in more than 100 years.

Owner Eddie Cerino said rent and labor costs contributed to the closing of his restaurant on W. Ridgewood Drive in The Shoppes at Parma. His is a famous name in Northeast Ohio culinary circles: His grandmother started Carrie Cerino’s, which opened in North Royalton in 1963. It’s now Via Roma Event Center & Ristorante. He wanted to remain in Parma, though, with a new location. He plans to open in the former Two Bucks location in the Tri City Shopping Center. Read more about the closing and an additional story here
