Highly anticipated 3rd location of Slows Bar BQ opens
Slows Bar BQ, well known for two decades, has been busy opening new locations.
On Friday, Dec. 19, the Detroit-born barbecue joint that opened its first location in the city's Corktown neighborhood opened its doors in Berkley. About three weeks ago, its Ann Arbor location made its debut.
Its Berkley location, announced last April, is in a space previously occupied by Berkley Common at 3087 12 Mile Road and Griffith Street.
The restaurant has a first floor that seats about 70 people. There’s also a second-floor private event space with its own dedicated bar that is available for booking through toasttab.com.
In Berkley, expect the same Slows Bar BQ menu like the Reason and the Yardbird sandwiches, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, plus its mac and cheese.

While its Berkley location expects to offer carryout in January, you can order from its catering menu for pick-up at toasttab.com.

Opening in Berkley is a full circle for Slows' owners, brothers Brian and Terry Perrone and Josh Kiellor, who announced its opening in April. All three have roots in the community. Kiellor grew up in Royal Oak, and while the Perrone's grew up in northwest Detroit, their dad taught at Shrine High School in Royal Oak, where they all met.
In Ann Arbor, Slows Bar BQ is at 207 E. Washington St. Prior to the opening, Slows’ food truck as well as its catering side, already operated around Ann Arbor at tailgates at various venues and on football Saturdays. Slows Ann Arbor has full-service dining, carryout, delivery, off-premises catering and two event spaces. There's also Mash, a whiskey bar in the basement that's open Thursday through Saturday. Ann Arbor hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to slowsannarbor.com.
Slows Bar BQ marked its 20th year in Corktown on Michigan Avenue and the West Fisher Service Drive near 14th Street. Michigan Central Station is across the street in the distance.
Since then, the barbecue spot has built a strong following. Along with the two new locations, there’s Slows-To-Go in Midtown.
Slows Bar BQ is known for its menu of ribs offered with a variety of sauces from North Carolina style to apple Bar BQ sauce and Slows spicy bar BQ sauce, brisket, burnt ends and sandwiches that include pulled pork and smoked chicken, macaroni and cheese and other sides.
Upcoming hours (January hours will follow) for its Berkley location are 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, closed Christmas Day, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, closed Dec. 29, 3-9 p.m. Dec. 30 and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 31.
