The classics aren't going anywhere: The top 10 baby names around the country prove one trend won't stop

As 2025 comes to an end, the states and territories have started to share the top baby names for boys and girls and one thing is for sure, there are some names which are dominating the lists again.

Longtime favourite names have taken over the top 10 once again, but there's a new name for baby girls which took the top place in Canberra, while a new trend is emerging for girl names in South Australia. 

The top baby names for girls and boys born around the country have started to be revealed.

Here's a breakdown of the top baby names this year for boys and girls, as the states and territories around Australia release their data. 

The top 10 baby names in the ACT

Canberra's most popular baby names for 2025 for boys and girls have been revealed and for the first time one name has topped the list for girls according to a new release from the ACT Government.

Longtime favourites have dominated the list, but this time Evelyn has taken the top spot for girls – climbing from 5th place last year.

Meanwhile Oliver returned to the top spot for boys.

The name Oliver previously topped the list in 2022, 2019 and 2010 and has been in the top 10 since 2008.

When it comes to the top names for boys and girls, beloved classics are still dominating the charts.

Both names have been favourites with parents, making their appearances within the top 10 but both secured the top spot for 2025.

The top 10 baby names in South Australia

A much loved classic has taken the top spot for girls in South Australia, with Charlotte once again securing the number one spot. 

For boys, Oliver once again reigned supreme, taking the crown for the 13th year in a row, according to a new release from Births, Deaths and Marriages South Australia.

There were some changes though, with Noah narrowly beating out Henry to claim number two on the list as the second most popular boys name for 2025.

For girls, a new trend has emerged too, with floral inspired names shooting up the ranks. Violet and Daisy both moved into the top 10, up from 22 and 24 respectively in the list in 2024.
