Ice Castles attraction set to open in Cripple Creek

DENVER (KDVR) — An immersive ice sculpture attraction in the city of Cripple Creek will open to guests on Saturday, Jan. 10, following a delay attributed to warm December weather.

The attraction, called Ice Castles, features ice slides, towers, tunnels and caverns, along with ice sculptures and an “icy fortress” with a bar serving chilled beverages. Guests can also buy warm beverages and “indulgent sweet treats” from concessions available on-site.

“Every element is designed to immerse visitors in a whimsical, fairy-tale environment,” Ice Castles said in a news release Friday.

The opening of Ice Castles was delayed after “historic” warm temperatures in December caused ice to temporarily stop growing, according to the attraction, which said “ice artisans” re-began work just after Christmas following the return of colder temperatures.

Ice Castles said this season will be its third in Cripple Creek and marks 15 years for the attraction in total.

“Our artisans have poured their hearts into this castle, and we’re excited to share it with thousands of guests who come to experience the wonder of winter,” said Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird, in a statement.
