Kate suits up for her first solo engagement for 2026

The Princess of Wales was the picture of poise as she welcomed England Rugby's Women's side to a red-clad royal reception at Windsor Castle.

Catherine, who has served as patron of the Rugby Football Union since 2022, hosted the lavish event in celebration of the team's recent title-winning stint at the Women's Rugby World Cup last year.

The Princess of Wales was all suited up for her first royal engagement of 2026.

Kate was clad in coordinates that had guests seeing rose-red, sporting head-to-toe Alexander McQueen in an obvious tribute to the team's 'Red Roses' moniker.

The wide-legged power pantsuit combo presented several points of interest, most notably through its exquisitely tailored blazer's nod to asymmetry – and an added eco-conscious twist.

Kate's flawless ensemble proved a mindful re-wear, with its first royal outing being the launch of the Princess of Wales' 'Shaping Us' Campaign in 2023.

The look was further elevated with minimal gold pairings and the Princess of Wales' signature voluminous waves.

Kate received a signed shirt from England's Women's Rugby team.

She then posed for photos with the team.

At the reception, the world cup-winning athletes and management staff were offered a tour of Windsor Castle, followed by a photo-op.

The team also presented their future queen with a signed England Roses' rugby jersey as a touching keepsake.

Catherine also spoke about playing sport with her children, admitting she's wary of Prince George when it comes to rugby at home.

"Obviously, as they get physically stronger… George, now, if I play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George! But up to a certain age it's great," she added.

Although the princess had not been in attendance at the Women's Rugby World Cup finals event in 2025, she bolstered her home team with a sweet show of support on social media prior to the game.

"Good luck England!" her post read.

"Wishing the very best of luck to the Red Roses in their Women's Rugby World Cup Final... We're so proud of you!"

Kate took over the Rugby Football Union patronage from predecessor Prince Harry, who stepped back from the role following he and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex's official departure from royal duties.

Her first solo appearance of 2026 comes exactly one week on from a joint engagement alongside Prince William on January 8, just a day before her 44th birthday.

This marked the first time either had been seen publicly since Christmas Day at Sandringham.

Her appearance at Charring Cross Hospital proved a pleasant surprise, having made an unexpected stop alongside her husband as joint patrons of the UK's National Health Service.
