Best wings in the South? Louisville restaurant makes national list

When setting out to rank chicken wings, you can expect things to get saucy.

A new list from Southern Living chronicles "The 20 Best Spots For Chicken Wings In The South," letting spots from New Orleans to Nashville shine in a conversation often intercepted by Buffalo, New York, or Kansas City.

Writer Matt Moore describes the list as a "smoky, saucy, spicy, and somewhat messy guide to chicken wings across the South." For research, Moore visited "dive bars, food trucks, pizza places, barbecue joints, and other establishments, both well known and emerging."

Momma’s Mustard Pickles & BBQ is one of several participants in the 2025 Louisville Wing Week.

And the guide includes a Louisville restaurant: Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ, which has locations at 102 Bauer Ave. and 119 S, Hurstourne Parkway.

The Southern Living article praises Momma's, one of a few Louisville restaurants Guy Fieri visited in 2016 while filming "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."

"These smoked wings earned Guy Fieri’s 'Triple D' praise, something locals have been giving them since the beginning," states the story from Jan. 13.

The beginning was May 2012, when Chad Coolidge opened Momma's Mustard in honor of his mother's cooking and his Kansas City roots.

The restaurant's menu includes ribs, salads, nachos, chili, meatloaf and "the best wings ever!!" Those wings are dry-rubbed, smoked and flash-fried and go for $1.45 each.
