Students build giant minion out of snow on Vincennes University campus

VINCENNES, Ind. — While many Hoosiers may choose to stay indoors and wait out this bout of blustery weather, that’s not the case for a group of students at Vincennes University.

Coltyn Sellers and his friends made the most of the accumulation of snow and took the concept of a snowman to a whole new level in the form of a giant minion.

Yes — a minion, one of the babbling yellow creatures with overalls and goggles from the Despicable Me franchise.

Sellers said the finished product stands 14 feet tall and 8 feet in diameter, after a full nine-hour shift with six people on hand over the last two days. The massive display welcomes students passing by Sellers’ residence hall on the southern Indiana campus.

Sellers, a WANE 15 viewer who’s originally from Wabash, shared photos Tuesday of the building process:

As seen in the pictures, the group used cardboard boxes and sleds to move snow into the pile as it evolved into the blob of a minion.

Once that took shape, the finer details were added, such as the top of its head and the goggle of the one-eyed creature. To really make the sculpture stand out, the students even found a way to give the minion its blue overalls and recognizable yellow hue.

There’s one good thing about this week’s brisk temperatures: this snow minion will likely not be melting away anytime soon.
