US Air Force Thunderbirds will return to Columbus for 2026 air show
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will fly into town for the Columbus Air Show coming up June 19 to 21, organizers have announced.
It's the demonstration team's first appearance at the show since 2024.
“We are delighted to welcome the Thunderbirds back to Columbus,” Herb Gillen, president of Herb Gillen Air Shows, said in an announcement from his company that produces the annual event.
“I cannot think of a better way to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary than to see those six beautiful red, white and blue F-16s go roaring across the sky."
The 2026 show, an officially designated event for national and state celebrations of the country's 250th anniversary July 4, will include a focus on the history of Ohio, aviation and the U.S. military. But it also will include the Thunderbirds' signature feat: the Delta Formation, in which six F-16 Fighting Falcons fly in precise configuration just 18 inches apart at speeds in excess of 400 mph.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds fly over the Daytona International Speedway before the start of the race on February 15, 2026 in Daytona Beach, Florida.
"For families and air-show enthusiasts looking to celebrate our nation’s birthday in style, the gates can’t open soon enough," Gillen said.
