Save the dates: Here are 10 food and drink festivals to savor in Utah this summer

Summer is coming quickly, and now is the time to start saving the dates for the season’s many food and drink festivals.

Whether you want to drink a frosty beer in the mountains, eat a footlong corn dog, enjoy a fancy meal al fresco, or sip a glass of wine, there is a festival in this list for you.

Details are still coming in, but we have the dates for some of Utah’s biggest food-centric festivals so you can mark your calendar.

Utah Food Festival

Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17 • Utah’s slate of summer food festivals will begin with the third annual Utah Food Festival, held at the Natural History Museum of Utah, at 301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City.

The festival will include a food market featuring Utah food makers like Caputo’s and Beehive Cheese Company, and a series of food workshops with such titles as “The Perfect Butter: How to Make It at Home” and “Cooking With Wild Plants Along the Wasatch Front.”

The event goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and admission to the festival is included with museum admission.

Saturday, June 27 • Savor the Summit is known as Utah’s largest outdoor dinner party. Participating restaurants set up tables along Park City’s Historic Main Street and invite diners to enjoy their food and beverages under the summer sky.

Businesses joining in on Savor the Summit this year include Bangkok Thai on Main, Flanagan’s on Main, Le Depot Brasserie, Kaneo, Firewood, Cafe Terigo, Shabu, Fletcher’s Park City, Old Town Cellars, Don Gallo, Deer Valley, The Eating Establishment, Riverhorse on Main and Courchevel Bistro, Make your reservations through each restaurant individually on the event website. (Don’t wait — they are already starting to sell out.)

Oktoberfest

Aug. 8-Oct. 11 at Snowbird, Aug. 29-Oct. 11 at Snowbasin • Utahns can choose from two big Oktoberfest celebrations this year: Oktoberfest at Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and SnowWiesn Oktoberfest at Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville.

Snowbird’s Oktoberfest kicks off Aug. 8 and runs through Oct. 11, happening every Saturday and Sunday, plus Labor Day. The festivities go from noon to 6 p.m., and admission is free. Snowbird is offering free transportation to and from the event through Snow Country Limo.

SnowWiesn Oktoberfest (named after d’Wiesn, the nickname for Oktoberfest in Germany) begins Aug. 29 and runs through Oct. 11, happening Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. Single-day event tickets are $10, and will go on sale this summer.

Both events feature Bavarian food, craft beer, live music, markets and spectacular mountain views.

Indian Food Fair

Saturday, Aug. 15 • The seventh annual Indian Food Fair is planned for Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.

If you’ve never been, the Indian Food Fair is a colorful and vibrant showcase of Indian food, culture and entertainment. You can browse the various stalls, purchase several different types of food, and then go sit on the grass while you eat and take in the sights.

Utah State Fair

Sept. 10-20 • The Utah State Fair returns to the Utah State Fairpark, at 155 N. 1000 West, Salt Lake City.

Greek Festival

Friday through Sunday, Sept. 11-13 • This year’s Greek Festival is noteworthy because it marks the event’s 50th year of bringing Hellenic food, culture and hospitality to Salt Lake City.

Happening at Holy Trinity Cathedral at 279 S. 300 West, Salt Lake City, and the lot next to it, the Greek Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

If you’ve never been, the Greek Festival is a feast, with long buffets featuring Greek food like gyros and spanakopita. There’s also a separate area where you can pick out Greek sweets.

General admission is $5, and free for children 5 and under. Food is priced separately.

SLC VegFest

Saturday, Sept. 12 • The 10th annual SLC VegFest is happening at Library Square, at 200 E. 400 South in downtown Salt Lake City. Hours are from noon to 8 p.m.

Organized and presented by the Utah Animal Rights Coalition, SLC VegFest is a free festival promoting veganism and animal rights.

There will be a variety of food vendors that are yet to be announced, as well as a beer garden, speakers, live music and activities for the kids.

Eat Drink SLC

Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16-17 • Eat Drink SLC is a two-day dining event at Tracy Aviary, in the southwest corner of Salt Lake City’s Liberty Park.

The 12th annual Eat Drink SLC will feature different food and drink pairings on each night, according to the website, as well as live music, dance and other performances.

Tickets go on sale in June, and will sell out quickly, according to organizers. Tickets include all food and drinks, signature glassware and live entertainment. Guests must be 21+.

The week of the event will bring “special culinary experiences” at partner restaurants throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Stay tuned for more information.

Festa Italiana

Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20 • Italians living in Utah, and anyone looking to experience Italian food and culture, would do well to find themselves at The Gateway shopping center for the 11th annual Festa Italiana.

The free festival will be held from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, and the goings-on will include pizza- and pasta-eating competitions, Italian food booths, Italian beer and wine, live entertainment, an Italian car show and more. Food vendors haven’t been announced yet, so keep an eye on the website.

Park City Wine Festival

Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 1-3 • If you need a reason to sip a glass of wine while gazing at beautiful fall foliage, the Park City Wine Festival is for you.

The festival will include three Grand Tastings, where attendees can sample 200+ wines from wineries around the world, and enjoy live music as well as food from local restaurants.

New “activations” at the fall festival include a Bubble Bar (focusing on sparkling wines) and Lodi Uncorked, which will focus on wines from the Lodi region of California.

Tickets for the three Grand Tastings are available now; general admission starts at $139.
