3-row Lexus TZ electric SUV means business. Here's my first look
LA JOLLA , Calif. – Lexus has revealed details on its big and luxurious new electric SUV, the six-passenger 2027 TZ.
The Lexus TZ promises around 300 miles driving range on a charge, standard all-wheel drive and 402 horsepower when it goes on sale in late 2026.
Lexus hasn’t revealed prices, but don’t be surprised at something around $80,000 for a vehicle Lexus describes as a “driving lounge” for its elegant sustainable materials and features including 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio and power “ottoman” footrests for the front passenger and second row seats.
Three-row SUVs are among America’s favorite vehicles, but there are relatively few three-row EVs, particularly from luxury brands. Lexus execs told me interior style, luxury and third-row leg room will power them past competitors including the Cadillac Vistiq, Volvo EX90 Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9.
I experienced the TZ’s look and feel in a stationary presentation the day before my first drive of the dynamic looking 2026 Lexus ES sedan, which has electric and hybrid models.

The 2027 Lexus TZ can charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes with a 150kW DC fast charger.
Shares parts with electric Highlander
The TZ’s aerodynamic body contributes to efficiency and a quiet interior. The SUV shares its platform and many mechanical systems with the upcoming 2027 Toyota Highlander EV. The TZ is 2 inches longer, at 208.3 inches. Its interior and exterior are unique to the Lexus.
The TZ offers four-wheel steering for maneuverability in tight spots and highway stability.
Toyota will build the Highlander EV in Georgetown, Kentucky, while the TZ comes from a plant in Japan.
The big Lexus’ coefficient of drag, which measures aerodynamic efficiency, is 0.27, a number Lexus says rivals the sleek little Toyota Prius hybrid. The TZ’s wheels and outside mirrors contribute to its low drag and a quiet interior.
