Adults, Tell Us The Best And Worst Things About The '70s That Younger Folks Would Be Surprised To Know

We've all seen how movies and TV shows have portrayed the 1970s in some way, shape, or form, but as an older Gen Z'er, I'm curious: what was that decade actually like — the good and the bad? What's something about growing up in the '70s that younger people would just have a hard time believing?

Maybe you believe that the one good thing about the '70s that everyone can agree on is that it produced some of the best music to this day: David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Donna Summer, Queen, and more. The music scene was vibrant, versatile, and diverse. People came out in droves to physically buy music, and even camped out in front of the box office to get concert tickets.

Maybe you wish more people realized that it wasn't all peace signs and good vibes. Racism and misogyny were still widespread and casual, whether in the workplace or schools.

Or maybe you want more people to know about the gas shortages that happened in the '70s, and how you were only allowed to get gas on certain days — typically depending on whether your license plate ended with an even or odd number.

No matter the case, if you grew up in the '70s, what are some significant things about that decade that younger folks would be incredibly surprised or shocked by? Let us know in the comments, or you can anonymously submit your story using the form below!
