These Delaware parks were named some of the best 'micro-escapes' in US
Do you need a place to unwind and relax after a long day at work?
Three Delaware parks were just named some of the best “micro-escapes” in the United States.
Top micro-escapes in Delaware, US

Cherry trees at the base of the Van Buren Street bridge are backlit by the sun in Brandywine Park in Wilmington, Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
A Mission for Michael, a mental health care provider, surveyed 3,006 people asking them to identify the gardens, riverwalks, urban parks, and public green spaces that help them feel grounded and calm.
Those places are dubbed micro-escapes, described by A Mission for Michael as “places where people go not for spectacle, but for relief.”
Brandywine Park in Wilmington ranked No. 46.
The park was said to give Wilmington “a softer, quieter edge,” offering a comfortable space to linger in as the water of Brandywine Creek invites you to slow down the pace and enjoy shaded paths. Locals can often be seen enjoying walks with friends or pets, relaxing on the benches and soaking up the sound of nature.
Silver Lake Park in Dover, at No. 111, is the next Delaware location featured.
Said to be a “long-cherished green space,” the park features walking paths, open laws and scenic water views for residents to enjoy. It offers a break from busy weekdays and city traffic when you don’t have the time for a beach trip, and it’s perfect for an evening stroll at sunset or a morning walk at sunrise. Visitors will often see ducks enjoying the water or neighbors relaxing in the shade of large trees after visiting nearby shops.
Battery Park in New Castle, at No. 140, is the final location in the Small Wonder to make the list.

Battery Park in New Castle, DE, Tuesday, August 26, 2025
The park is described by A Mission for Michael as a place for locals to clear their heads and reset. Beyond the long stretch of water views and open fields, Battery Park features a paved walking path perfect for biking or rollerblading, too. Plenty of benches and large, shady trees make it a great post-work stop on sunny days if your idea of unwinding includes less physical exertion.
