With Halloween fast approaching, people across Rhode Island are stocking up on candies to dole out to trick-or-treaters on the holiday evening.

Ahead of the big day, grocery delivery service Instacart revealed which Halloween candy reigns supreme in the Ocean State – and it's not chocolate.

By analyzing the total weight of candy sold on Instacart in October 2024, the company was able to determine each state's favorite holiday sweet. It turns out that Rhode Island has a taste for sweet and sour.

Rhode Island's top Halloween candy pick is Sour Patch Kids, according to Instacart's analysis. Five other states – Colorado, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Texas – share this top pick.

The state that ordered candy the most often was Utah (+50.7%), while the state that ordered it the least often was Hawaii (-25%), the delivery service said.

How does Rhode Island feel about candy corn?

Candy corn isn't hated in Rhode Island. In fact, it's actually liked a bit. According to Instacart, customers in the Ocean State ordered candy corn 5.7% more often than the national average.

Mississippi loves it the most, as the state orders candy corn 92.3% more often than the national average.

On the other end of the spectrum, Hawaii ordered the controversial candy 55.3% less often than the national average.

"Candy Corn is the ultimate Halloween wildcard," Instacart trends analyst Alex Orellana wrote in the report. "In some states, it’s a nostalgic must-have that people eagerly stock up on, while in others, it’s the first candy left behind in the bowl. That split is what makes Candy Corn so fascinating: it’s not just a treat, it’s a tradition that people either love to celebrate or love to debate."
