During Halloween season, Bulk Candy Store goes all out with decor. This scary fellow, reminiscent of Pennywise, kept following me when I was trying to get past him.

At Bulk Candy Store, nostalgia meets spectacle and sometimes a scare. When visiting, I wandered toward the counter where personalized peanut butter cups are made, only to lock eyes with an animatronic creature straight out of Stephen King’s “IT” which turned toward me every time I moved, a creepy reminder that Halloween candy can come with a side of fright.

Brothers Brian and Ken Shenkman have transformed this West Palm Beach landmark into a candy wonderland, complete with a chocolate-making station and a popcorn room perfumed with 70 flavors including blue raspberry and green apple. Shelves brim with retro favorites; mine include Chuckles, Drops and Goldberg’s Peanut Chews, alongside modern treats and custom creations. The shop also offers a reservations-required behind-the-scenes tour for candy lovers who want to see the magic in action; it boasts a TripAdvisor top 10 score. For Halloween, order ahead for personalized sweets or just wander in for a sugar rush and a few goosebumps.

Baker's dozen or unlucky number? Bissinger's clever Black Coffin Gift Box has 13 pieces priced $48.

Founded in France in the 17th century, this heritage chocolatier offers seasonal assortments and signature pieces like sea salt caramels and fruit-filled truffles. Once a confectioner to European nobility, the brand still uses centuries-old recipes, handcrafting chocolates in small batches for a luxurious experience.

For those seeking Halloween indulgence, the shop offers fun themed assortments including a "Black Coffin" gift box with 13 chocolates ($48), the "Halloween Skull Collection" with 16 pieces ($38), and milk chocolate Halloween cookies ($42 for 12). In our office, the first pieces to disappear were the Halloween-esque chocolate covered oranges.

Oh My Chocolate on Clematis Street offers a selection of housemade Belgian bonbons.

Flor Nordine channels European artistry into every piece she makes. After learning the secrets of fine chocolate in Belgium and mastering gelato in Italy, Nordine treats her two-bite bonbons with the same care as her frozen creations, layering flavors for depth and balance. Her red velvet gelato is a standout, marrying silky chocolate with a whisper of creaminess for a decadent bite.

The shop itself feels like a whimsical treasure trove, with shelves of stuffed animals adding carnival-ish charm to the sweet experience. For Halloween, Nordine recommends ordering ahead to secure her seasonal specialties.
