There's more than corn in Indiana. There are also potatoes.
At least, that's the case on Thanksgiving dinner tables. In Campbell's latest State of the Sides report, the side with the most support from Hoosiers polled was mashed potatoes.
The food company surveyed 5,000 adults, 18 years and older, in the U.S. who celebrate Thanksgiving, with 100 Americans in each of the 50 states. This is what it found.

America's Favorite Sides, according to Campbell's 2025 State of the Sides report.
The company found the following Thanksgiving sides were the most popular among Americans:
- Stuffing/dressing
- Mashed potatoes
- Sweet potatoes
- Mac and Cheese
- Green bean casserole
All of the dishes appeared in the top five last year as well, according to the report.

The report found the most popular sides in Indiana were:
- Mashed Potatoes
- Mac & Cheese
- Stuffing/dressing
- Green bean casserole
- Sweet potatoes

A majority of states chose stuffing/dressing as their No. 1 Thanksgiving side, with just a few states selecting mac and cheese and mashed potatoes.
Report finds Americans prefer sides to turkey
Of those surveyed, 63% said they prefer eating side dishes over turkey at Thanksgiving, with 47% saying they'd be perfectly happy with a plate of just sides. Both of these numbers are up from last year, according to the report, from 56% and 38%, respectively.
Two-thirds of those surveyed said they enjoy cooking the sides more than the turkey, and 85% agreed that leftovers are one of the best parts of Thanksgiving.
Green bean casserole, mac and cheese win over the hearts of many
Green bean casserole was labeled "the most iconic Thanksgiving side" by 44% of those surveyed, with more than half Thanksgiving meal cooks saying it's best made the traditional way.
The dish reportedly appears on more than half of Thanksgiving tables nationally, with 61% of Midwesterners adding it to their holiday spread.
Meanwhile, 50% of those asked said mac and cheese should be a Thanksgiving staple, with Gen Z and Millennials leading the movement. In fact, mac and cheese was found to be the No. 1 side among Gen Z participants.
Americans prioritize presentation
The report found that most Americans emphasize appearances on Thanksgiving, with 62% saying they care just as much about presentation as taste. A little less than half said they like to look good on the special day as well, with their outfit contributing to their happiness.
This isn't always a good thing, however, as nearly half of Americans reported experiencing "perfection anxiety" when it comes to preparing Thanksgiving dishes.

All in all, the report found that preparing holiday dishes is how 81% of Americans show their love for family and friends, with 77% saying family recipes always appear at Thanksgiving.
Most of those surveyed still admitted to loving experimenting with recipes, with honey, peppers and BBQ sauce appearing as trending flavors in 2025.
