Pecan or apple? See most-searched Thanksgiving pies, side dishes

Pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, stuffing and other popular pies and side dishes are surely on people's to-cook lists ahead of Thanksgiving on Nov. 27.

With the holiday less than a week away, Google shared the most-searched recipes for side dishes and pies in each U.S. state. The data is compiled over the last month, the tech giant told USA TODAY.

The most searched side dishes included stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole and deviled eggs, according to Google data. For those with a sweet tooth, the top searched pies were apple, pecan, sweet potato and chocolate pie, the tech giant found.

These are the country’s most-searched Thanksgiving side dishes

According to Google data, stuffing was the most popular Thanksgiving side dish in the United States over the last month, being the top searched in 42 out of 50 states. Green bean casserole ranked first in four states, sweet potato casserole did so in two; however, cranberry sauce and deviled eggs ranked No. 1 in one state each.

The states where the top side dishes were ranked first are as follows:

  • Stuffing: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin
  • Green bean casserole: Alaska, Louisiana, Montana, Wyoming
  • Sweet potato casserole: Iowa, Mississippi
  • Cranberry sauce: Nevada

These are the country’s most-searched Thanksgiving pies

The top-ranked pies were more spread out compared to the side dishes. Pumpkin pie was the top-searched pie, ranking first in 29 states, according to Google data. On the other hand, apple pie was most searched in seven states, chocolate in six states, pecan pie in five states and sweet potato pie in three states.
