One of the last two eateries at troubled San Francisco Centre mall is closing
(KRON) — At its pre-pandemic peak, there were more than 20 dining options at San Francisco Centre, formerly known as the Westfield Centre. Popular spots like Chipotle, Beard Papa’s, Wetzel’s Pretzels and Sarku Japan once operated at the mall that used to bring in crowds of people from all over the world.
Today, the indoor shopping center has two eateries remaining: Shake Shack and Panda Express — the former set to shut down soon.
According to a filing with the Employment Development Department, Shake Shack is closing its location inside the mall on Dec. 18. The WARN report, which was filed last week, states 26 employees at that Shake Shack will be laid off.
That leaves Panda Express as the last dining option at the troubled mall. According to SF Centre’s website, there is a total of 27 businesses listed on the mall directory. The mall has lost nearly $1 billion in value, KRON4 reported in 2024.
KRON4 reached out to Shake Shack for more information about the closure. We did not hear back in time for publication.
