HONOLULU (KHON2) — There have been celebrations leading up to the Chinese New Year this year and the Ala Moana Center is getting ready to kick off its six-day Lunar New Year event.
In Chinatown this year, Chinatown 808 hosted an all-day, family-friendly 50th celebration to ring in the Year of the Horse, which featured Lunar New Year dishes, cultural performances, a parade and more.
From Feb. 17 to Feb. 22, the Ala Moana Center will host its six-day Chinese Lunar New Year events, featuring special performances on the center stage.
Taking place in the center stage, there is pole jumping, which in Chinese symbolizes courage, bravery and skill. The symbolism behind “high pole jumping” is known to showcase one overcoming obstacles, challenges and reaching new heights.
