Grill masters, beware: Weber is recalling 3.2 million units of its popular metal wire bristle grill brushes due to indigestion hazards. Wire bristles are falling off the brushes and finding their way into people’s food, and subsequently their stomachs, after being used to clean the grill. The best remedy, according to the CPSC, is to replace the brush completely with a safer alternative. If you want to keep your grilled chicken free of harmful stray wires, we’ve put together a list of some of the best bristle-free grill brushes available at Amazon.

You can’t get much further from harsh wire bristles than a sponge. This Scrub Daddy grill brush’s flexible construction allows the brush head to firm up into a scrubber when run under cold water, softening it into a sponge that can release the grime under warm water. We ranked it among the five best grill brushes for its steam technology — when used on a hot outdoor grill, the water drops from the brush and turns into steam that softens build-up and makes scrubbing that much easier.
