The devil actually does wear Prada (and Saint Laurent): Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s best looks
Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep

It’s been 20 years since the release of The Devil Wears Prada, the hit film starring Meryl Streep as magazine editor Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, the aspiring journalist hired as her assistant, who is thrown in at the deep end of the high-fashion world.
The film was based on the book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, a former assistant to Anna Wintour at Vogue, and for the past two decades the world has wondered just how much of Priestly’s character was shaped by Weisberger’s own experience.
This spring, we will see Streep and Hathaway reprise those roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and the global press tour for the film has been strong on style, with plenty of sartorial references to its themes.

Meryl Streep

For the Shanghai premiere, Streep broke free from the red, black, white palette for the first time in midnight blue Saint Laurent. The coat-dress featured a black knotted belt and was adorned with a Cindy Chao diamond maple leaf brooch. Streep also made a strong case for sporty sunglasses.
Anne Hathaway

Hathaway wore a frothy pastel “Air Flower” dress by Susan Fang. The designer is based in London, but had a multicultural upbringing across China, Canada, the US and the UK.

Streep attended the Seoul premiere looking very Miranda Priestly in a draped Celine top, tuxedo trousers, wide leather belt and black satin pumps.

Hathaway wore a red leather Balenciaga bomber jacket dress with a zipped front and skirt. The look was completed by a pair of black heels.

Streep continued to adhere to the colour scheme of The Devil Wears Prada 2 poster, in a red Prada suit with an open neckline and a belted waist. The look was completed by platform sandals by British brand Sole Bliss.

Hathaway wore a Vaquera look comprising of an off-the-shoulder corseted top and a pair of leather jeans.

The biggest flex in fashion right now is to wear Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel – so of course Streep’s stylist, Micaela Erlanger, had to secure a look for the Tokyo leg of this tour.
The skirt suit, from the pre-fall 2026 collection, featured fringing at the hems and cuffs, and a flash of cobalt blue under the arms. It was completed by classic Chanel slingbacks, Fred Leighton jewellery and a pair of sunglasses. Very Miranda Priestly.

Hathaway wore a Valentino by Alessandro Michele couture look for the Tokyo event. It was teamed with Valentino Garavani Rockstud heels – the same family of shoes worn by Streep’s Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer.

Is that… yes, yes it is a blue jumper, just like the one worn by Andy Sachs in the original film that inspired Priestly’s famous “cerulean” speech – succinctly explaining how the fashion trend cycle operates. Streep chose it for her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The Devil wears… leopard-print Givenchy for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It’s the shape and proportions of the coat that make it such a “wow” piece. She teamed it with a DeMellier bag, Lapima sunglasses and Gianvito Rossi shoes.
Mexico City premiere

The red carpet for the Mexico City premiere was in fact a catwalk, complete with a giant stiletto shoe. Hathaway referenced a scene in the original film in her thigh-high boots – this pair was by Stella McCartney, as was the sparkly pink skater minidress.

Streep wore Schiaparelli this time – a maxi shirt dress with gold buttons running down the front, each of them different. The look was completed with a wide belt and a Schiaparelli fringed bag featuring a face motif.

The tour kicked off in Mexico City with a press conference at Casa Azul. Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep posed for photos together, with Hathaway in a black fringed Schiaparelli gown embellished with a textured gold eye motif.

Streep wore a red, custom Dolce & Gabbana suit with a matching pussy-bow blouse. Pinned to her lapel was an assortment of tiny brooches.
Completing her look were Fope 1929 hoop earrings, Emmanuelle Khanh sunglasses and a pair of red, pointed Aldo heels.
