The best, worst and weirdest looks at the Actor Awards
That would be, of course, one Rue Rose Shumpert, Teyana Taylor’s daughter, who was as adorable as a human being could be, fluffing her mother’s skirt, posing for photographers and telling an E! News reporter, “This is such an honor for me being here.”
“And I hope when I grow up I can get a trophy, too,” she added.
So cute you could die? Definitely. But also genuinely a great look — we love seeing a child actually dressed like a child rather than a shrunken facsimile of an adult. And that pink skirt with the gems printed on it? Would wear, for real.
Otherwise, it was a mostly sartorially subdued affair For the first time ever, there was a red carpet dress code: “Reimagining Hollywood Glamour from the ’20s and ’30s.” Most actors took that to mean lots of blacks and beiges and traditional evening wear silhouettes. Even Chris Perfetti, the “Abbott Elementary” star who goes out of his way to turn fierce runway looks, wore a monochromatic brown ensemble.

Chris Perfetti
But! There were still several standout looks, for better, for worse, and for … something. Here they are.
The Best
Parker Posey
I’m trying to come up with a good description for the singular way Posey has been dressing for red carpet events this year. How does this Gucci dress traipse so close to the line of parody, but stay this side of fabulous? And how much fun would it be to hear Parker Posey’s character on “The White Lotus” drawl “traaaaipse”?
Kate Hudson
We loved when Hudson took this Valentino cape into flying squirrel mode. But we maybe loved it even more when it was at ease, draped around her like a beautiful Roman goddess. Get you a cape that can do both.
Michael B. Jordan
In a sea of browns and blacks, the gray jacket, white shirt and blue tie in this Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann suit stood out and stood strong. The “B” is for “business.” Because he didn’t come to play.
Miles Caton
The cinched waist and flared pants give a wavy silhouette to this Louis Vuitton that set him apart from the other actors at the Actors. Caton learned to play guitar for “Sinners.” Did he learn impeccable tailoring for the red carpet?
Kirsten Dunst
The pockets: relaxed! The bows: sweet! The backless surprise: daring! So many moods in just one black dress by Khaite.
Worst
Ethan Hawke
This Dior vest makes Hawke look like a divorced dad who showed up late to pick up his daughter while still wearing his costume from the community theater play his new girlfriend convinced him to try out for. But, then, this is supposed to be an awards show that honors actors, so I guess I appreciate him staying on theme.
Fran Drescher
… Oh, and in case you wanted to see what dad’s new community theater girlfriend was wearing that night, Fran Drescher will show you.
Mindy Kaling
Why does this Yara Shoemaker dress have a screen? And why can’t I change the channel?
Demi Moore
We love Demi Moore. And we love Schiaparelli. But the spotted white poof looks like someone trying to draw “a dalmatian fart” in Pictionary.
Boldest
Jenna Ortega
This artfully shredded Christian Cowan look was my favorite nod to the Old Hollywood dress code. She looks like she’s leaving a party Kenneth Anger wrote about in “Hollywood Babylon.”
Sarah Paulson
Yo, that’s a vintage 1979 couture Yves Saint Laurent! In my fantasy, Paulson spilled red wine on a white dress just as she was leaving the house and Holland Taylor was like, “Don’t worry, darling. I’ve got this old frock just sitting in my closet that would be perfect.” (It was actually sourced by vintage purveyors Shrimpton Couture.)
Emma Stone
So slouchy! Yet so fancy! When was the last time you saw a cardigan on a red carpet? We’re not entirely sure how we feel about the high-low frisson of this Louis Vuitton two-piece. But that’s probably a good thing?
Tyler, the Creator
The boxiness, the shorts and the high socks are all fitting for Tyler, the Creator repping his first film role in “Marty Supreme.” It’s a little bit precocious and a little bit petulant.
Sarah Catherine Hook
The most refreshing color combination of the night came from this purple Balenciaga gown with powder blue opera gloves.
Teyana Taylor

Taylor and daughter Rue
I mean, we all know who the real star of the night was. But yes, Rue’s mother, Teyana Taylor, was also pretty memorable in her cement-hued Thom Browne gown.
