Holiday Guilt and Sob-Story Scams

Using Christmas or other holidays as a bargaining chip is low, but some shoppers go there anyway. One tried to guilt a seller into a huge discount because it was the season to give, and the seller, predictably, said no. Another buyer concocted a fake sob story to win pity pricing, which backfired spectacularly. Lies for cheaper prices never end well.
Outrageous Online Haggle Requests

Online negotiations have a weird confidence boost built in, and people ask for wild things. Someone wanted the seller to cover their travel to pick up an item, while another offered a laughably small amount to cover delivery and expected the seller to eat the rest. One buyer even demanded a brand-new console be unboxed so it could be sold as used at a lower price, and a would-be guitar buyer insulted the seller after their lowball offer was refused. Entitlement plus anonymity is a dangerous combo.
Playing the Sympathy Card

Emotional appeals get used a lot, and not always honestly. Buyers have tried to squeeze discounts by saying they need the money for a kid's braces, or by listing a string of personal tragedies and expecting special treatment. A veteran pushed for a bigger discount than offered, and a son-in-law assumed military service in the family meant financial perks. Even influencers have offered shoutouts in place of cash, like asking for free pizza for an Instagram mention.
Freebies at Weddings, Babysitting, and Birthdays

Some people seem to think musicians, babysitters, and creatives exist to work for free. Brides have asked for live music without pay, parents expect a Mary Poppins-level babysitter with an exhaustive requirements list, and guests have demanded freebies or discounts for birthdays. Other oddballs wanted reserved parking and bigger candy bars on Halloween, or expected a vendor to replace food stolen by a seagull. If you want stuff for nothing, prepare for pushback.
Teaching a Lesson

The entitlement of some people recently is wild. To claim that you’re deserving of special treatment based on your job title is outrageous. This teacher did just that, except it majorly backfired. They thought that their career would open doors for them in negotiations. Little did they know, they were trying to rip off a fellow teacher. This teacher was schooled.
Playing the Game

This determined person really wanted that game console and wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Not only was their offer borderline offensive, but they insisted that the seller unbox a brand-new item so it would be considered used and could go for a cheaper price. Can you believe it? We’re pretty sure that’s not how it works. Just accept the “no” and move on.
Water it Down

Some people will do whatever it takes to save every last penny possible, even if it means asking for cheeky discounts. The beginning of the text was lovely, but then it took a turn for the worse. You have a pool and you’re worried about the person cleaning your house taking drinking water from the tap? Does it get more absurd?
Wedding Snub

Families are complicated things at the best of times, especially around weddings. There always seems to be a drama of some sort that can add tension to an otherwise lovely day. However, this takes the cake. How can you be considered close enough to get the family discount at a relative's store, but not close enough to get an actual invite to the wedding? We’re baffled.
Six Strings, Zero Tact

Asking a seller to slash the price of an item by more than half rarely goes well. When they refuse to go that low, cussing them out is definitely not the way to go. This buyer offered what we can only describe as an insulting amount to take the Gibson guitar off the seller's hands. We can't help but think they had every right to be mad about it.
Work for Free

What is it about employers not wanting to pay staff for their hard work? It's time to realize that people don't work for free! Not only did this employer imply that they were doing the community a favor by “keeping teens off the street”, but they then made it about crime and addiction. We'll take salary over experience any day.
Mates Rates

Many freelancers have experienced a friend or family member asking for a discount on their services. While it's understandable, freelancers still need to get paid for their work! If you're going to be cheap, your wedding day probably isn't the day to do it, especially when photographs last a lifetime. Here's to hoping the student photographer captured their special moments.
Dampen the Mood

There will always be people who will use almost any reason to get a discounted price on an item. Perhaps they should put more thought into their reason for a discount. This buyer wanted the kayak to be sold for cheaper because it was on display in the rain outside the store. It must have slipped their mind that the sole purpose of a kayak is to function in water.
How Sweet

While out to eat for a romantic dinner, this couple was bothered by a couple sitting near them, who had been staring and whispering all night. When the woman walked up to them, they couldn’t believe their ears. The lady insisted they give her their dessert for her anniversary. They refused and she began to make a big scene. Still, even with the restaurant looking at the table, the couple just watched her throw a tantrum, as they ate the entire dessert in front of her face.
Black Friday Disappointment

With the instant gratification that comes with a modern lifestyle, our generation often experiences perpetual impatience. If something takes five minutes to happen, that’s four minutes too long. Not only did this Black Friday customer lack patience, but they also demanded a sufficient discount on the item for being inconvenienced. We can't help but be a little shocked, to say the least.
Throw the Book at Thieves

Behind every book is an author who put in months of work and effort to make it an enjoyable read. The same goes for film, music, and art. When the public illegally obtains these art forms, it’s a real slap in the face for the people behind the masterpiece. This lady is furious that her illegal book pirating site has been shut down, and that she now has to purchase her reading material legally. At least the author is getting compensated!
Thank You for Your Non-Service

Soldiers are superheroes, there’s no denying that. While their families make sacrifices to some extent too, it’s just not the same thing as putting your life on the line for your country. But this son-in-law is taking it just a bit too far. Did he really expect financial benefits because his father-in-law served in the military?
Very Important Customer

Leaving people satisfied and eager to return is every businessman's dream—repeat customers are the secret to success. But it's important to keep in mind that you can't please everybody, especially those who think they're too important to pay the same price as every else. We applaud this person's confidence in thinking that making up "VIP status" would bank them a hefty half-off discount. Some people will find any reason not to pay full price. Better luck next time.
Garage Sale Scandal

Garage sales are best known for the sweet deals that you can get on second-hand items that would otherwise go to Goodwill or the junkyard. This person wished to pay a measly amount for an item that caught their eye and was horrified at the prospect of being asked for $2. If you don’t like the price, move on. No need to disrespect anyone.
Say Yes to the Dress

After finding a dress that she loved but couldn’t afford, this girl was kicked out of the store. A woman saw her walking dejectedly and offered to pay for the dress. However, the sales associate saw her try to come back in and pay for the dress with a stranger’s money and called the cops on her, thinking she had somehow stolen the money from someone walking by. It took two hours to sort everything out, and no one was very happy in the end.
Don’t Bite the Hand That Feeds You

When times are hard, sometimes you have to put your ego aside and ask for help from others. While not everybody will reach out a helping hand in your times of need, there is usually a good-hearted stranger willing to spare what they have. This person in need provided a long list of extravagant dietary requirements and made it very clear that they would not be accepting anything that was on that list. As it turns out, beggars *can* be choosers!
Free Tickets?

In any marketplace, there will always be individuals seeking to maximize their gains by requesting discounts. Whether it be for home essentials or recreational activities, buyers love fishing around for the best price. Or no price at all in this case. At least this “buyer” was upfront and honest about their intentions to be cheap. We wonder if they got the tickets.
What a Car Crash

When asking somebody for a favor, you don’t want to appear to be too much of a burden, and you definitely don’t want to appear as a liability. Not only did this driver total their car, but their own parents don’t trust them with their car. Who on earth would want to lend you their car after hearing that track record?
Shape Up

Being a personal trainer isn’t easy. On top of keeping your clients in shape and having them stick to a regimented diet and workout schedule, you yourself have to do the same in order to set a good example. That’s a lot of hard work. This person wants all of that hard work and effort without having to pay the personal trainer for any of it. We can't help but think they're still waiting for offers.
When the Math Aint Mathing

When purchasing something online, it’s fair to inquire about the delivery and costs of such services. Worst case scenario you’ll get a no, but it’s always worth asking. However, it's not fair to ask for the time, effort, and cost of delivery without paying the seller adequately. This potential buyer knew how much delivery would cost and offered a pitiful $5 for it, expecting the seller to cover the rest of the cost. That’s ridiculous!
All Vets Are Off

Let's be real, a pet is a luxury. It’s not something that accidentally happens to you and that you’re lumbered with. As the old saying goes, “A Pet is for Life, Not for Christmas”. If you cannot afford to give an animal the home it deserves, you simply shouldn’t acquire one. And you definitely shouldn’t try to exploit the caregiving services for charging for their time and expertise.
Driving Us Crazy

Asking for a favor is all well and good, as long as the person asking is grateful. When they start to make all sorts of demands and show a lack of appreciation, things can get a little bit ugly. If you’re asking for a free ride, the least you could do is chip in for parking. It definitely works out cheaper than renting a car!
Daylight Robbery

Online marketplaces are a rich tapestry of buyers and sellers, all doing their very best to save money. Some buyers, like this person, are not only bold but also a little on the gullible side. To ask for a $600 laptop for less than $400 can be considered as daylight robbery. To then go and ask for it for free would is just plain ridiculous.
Practically Perfect in Every Way

Well, this request is pretty brazen. You can never be too picky when it comes to choosing someone to look after your own children. Or so we thought. The number of requirements that this babysitter is expected to fulfill is something that we’ve never seen the likes of before. They are basically looking for an extremely underpaid and overworked Mary Poppins. Good luck to them.
Birthday Present Backlash

Back in our day, kids would climb trees. Now they’re busy trying to exploit people online. This high school student thinks that she’s entitled to a drastic discount simply because she’s being a good older sister and buying her younger brother a birthday present. While we can appreciate she's trying to do a nice thing, we can't get over the mouth on her!
A Big Ask

Moving apartments is rough, especially if you’re moving to an unfurnished one. While social media can be a great place to ask for help and find good deals on the odd item, this buyer is literally asking for everything but the kitchen sink. Not only have they requested large and pricy items, but they’ve also asked for them to be delivered to them personally and to be brought up three flights of stairs. Wow!
The Sausage Thief

For those well-acquainted with the charms of British seaside destinations, the antics of pesky seagulls are an all-too-common experience. These mischievous birds have the ability to swoop in and snatch away food from unsuspecting sunbathers. If you’re not on the receiving end of these antics, it’s hilarious. In a rather bold move, one customer decided to test their luck by approaching a vendor and requesting a replacement sausage. Clearly, the vendor’s refund policy doesn’t cover living, avian creatures.
Broken Record

When purchasing a second-hand device from the '90s, you have to take into account the fact that it’s not going to be in the best condition. Requesting a full refund from the buyer because a piece of the speaker hasn’t been replaced in over 30 years would be ridiculous on its own, but to bring Christianity into it? We’re struggling to understand what Jesus has to do with it.
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Most of the time, selfless acts of kindness are met with great appreciation, but not always. This total stranger saw a mother-to-be who was anxious about not having enough clothes for her baby so she took it upon herself to crochet her a hat, mitten, boots, and a blanket. How sweet! We can't believe the mother didn’t want the crocheted outfit because she was looking for “real clothes and baby items”. Ouch.
Dine and Dash

Ranting on the internet has become the new way to deal with problems #TherapyDupe. This girl has decided to use the World Wide Web to vent her grievances about not being treated to dinner since her boyfriend broke up with her. Her friends were all but impressed with how unappreciative she has been for their kindness and they decided to call her out on it. Since when does sushi not count?
Points Were Made

When you’re strapped for cash, it’s important to get your priorities right so that you can get yourself back on track. This would normally mean only spending on crucial things like utility bills, food, travel, and video games of course. The seller makes a good point here—if you are low on funds and need a car, maybe start there before looking for a new games console.
Game On

This gamer thought he’d outsmart the system and send a copy-and-paste message to multiple game sites in the hope that one of them would reply with a free code for Prime gaming. While in theory, this isn’t a bad idea at all, he got caught. If you’re going to do something this public, be prepared for the backlash.
Penny-Pinching Prenuptials

Weddings are pricy affairs—there’s no getting around it. It’s pretty common for couples to cut prices where they can, but some luxuries are going to cost a lot, no matter what you do. But asking somebody to play music at your wedding for free is a little stingy. It looks like this bride-to-be forgot that musicians have bills to pay, too.
Clean Up Your Manners

Cleaning for a living is a noble job. It puts food on the table and gets bills paid. However, it's not a means to make friends and be entertained. This homeowner has decided that their mere presence is enough. Are they not aware that cleaners don’t clean others' mess for the fun of it? It's somebody's business, not a playdate. They didn't even provide snacks.
Wife Material

Marriage is a sacred bond built on trust, loyalty, and dedication. It doesn’t get much more dedicated than this. Forget seducing somebody for a lower price, you can get your spouse to do it for you. This guy's wife will happily sport a revealing outfit in order to get her hubby the discounts he thinks he deserves. What a tag team.
True Bully

Making an emotional ploy in online negotiations is something we’re seeing more and more of these days. This buyer who was in the market for a new phone opened the conversation by sharing his lengthy life story, not sparing any detail. What is this—a therapy session? We can't help but wonder how the buyer responded to this essay. It sure through us for a loop.
Think of the Children

People are beginning to use their children’s health care and well-being as an excuse for a discount. We have truly seen everything. This buyer asked for a significant discount on a fairly priced item because they had to pay for their kid's braces. When they were denied the discount, they accused the seller of hating children. This took an interesting turn.
Take It or Leave It

It’s not uncommon for veterans to be offered a discount for their service to the country. After, all they make a lot of sacrifices for us. But regardless of what you did to deserve it, the usual response to being given a price reduction is a “thank you”. However, this veteran, thought they’d try and get the discount lowered even further. We wish them all the luck.
Hard Luck Tale

We get it—being a college student isn't easy. College is expensive. But we can't help but think this person is milking it. Not only did their house catch on fire but both their parents and their niece have cancer. We couldn't have said it better than the seller: "We all have issues." We're glad they stayed firm on their price.
The Rich Get Richer

Elon Musk is currently the richest man on planet Earth—he certainly didn't get rich by working for free. We can't believe he expected engineers to volunteer to improve Twitter's code as "an act of goodwill". Owning multiple properties, 11 cars, and not forgetting Space X, you’d think Musk could spring for an engineer or two to fix his newly purchased multimillion-dollar internationally used social media platform.
Teen Discount

We can't help but always want the next best thing and we'll do just about anything to get our hands on it. This teenager wanted to up his gaming system and he was kind enough to do the seller a favor by helping them take the gaming item off their hands. But that's not all—he even asked for a 50% teen discount. Boy, bye!
Birthday Wishes

Parents will do just about anything to make sure their kids have a good birthday. This parent was shocked when they couldn't get a free birthday discount for their daughter. While we'd be gasped for words, the seller was in the birthday spirit and offered their services for a discount. We can't believe the parent went to cussing because they didn't get their way.
Pizza Party

Social media is making this generation feel more and more entitled to things they simply don’t deserve. This influencer was a bit short on cash and offered to give a shoutout to the pizza restaurant on her social media in order to gain traction. Apparently, a mention on an Instagram story has far more worth than actual money. Who knew?
Tinder Fail

These days, people will do anything to make a good impression on dating apps. But asking someone to fix your car is an unusual pick-up line. We bet the user wasn't expecting to see the shocking photo of the damage. We can't help but think their wit is a match made in heaven. We wonder if they met up.
Birthday Boldness

Everybody wants to look and feel their best on their birthday, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of someone else. We simply can't get over this girl's confidence in asking for not one, not two, but *four* services for free! That's a lot of free stuff. She really wanted a complete birthday makeover. We hope she enjoyed her special day.
Trick or Treat?

You most certainly do not have to put out candy for trick-or-treaters on Halloween, it’s simply a nice thing to do. When you go by a house with a pumpkin full of treats on the doorstep, know that someone went out of their way to make you smile. But candy was not enough for this person. They wanted close parking to the houses as well as bigger candy bars. Spooky request.
Looking Back at It All

What ties these stories together is simple: a sense of entitlement so loud it becomes comic. People weaponize holidays, jobs, relationships, even children to try and shave a few bucks off a price. Sometimes it’s petty, sometimes it’s creative, and sometimes it’s straight-up rude. Either way, it makes for wild reading and a useful reminder that manners still matter.
Why People Push For Discounts

There’s always a reason, real or made up. Feeling entitled, trying to save, or testing the limits of what someone will tolerate. Online anonymity fuels bold asks, and social media makes the bar for acceptable behavior blurrier. Still, asking nicely beats inventing sob stories every time.
When Asking Crosses The Line

There’s a difference between haggling and demanding the impossible. Expecting free services at a wedding, yelling at staff over a dessert, or saying a kayak should be cheaper because it got wet - those are red flags. Sellers are people, not punchlines, and public meltdowns rarely sway prices. Pay respect, or at least pay full price.
How Sellers Can Handle It

Set clear boundaries and stick to them. A firm, polite no works better than a long argument, and written policies stop most nonsense before it starts. Offer alternatives when you can, but don’t reward bad behavior with special treatment. Protect your time and your price, and customers who respect that will stick around.
Parting Thought: Be Human

At the end of the day, these stories are funny because they’re familiar. We’ve all tried to haggle or cut a corner, but there’s dignity in paying your way and gratitude in a simple thank-you. If you want a deal, ask kindly, accept no when it comes, and move on with your life. It keeps the world a little less chaotic and a lot more pleasant.
