The message Dua Lipa’s wedding look is sending, according to 3 fashion experts
Dua Lipa made a fashion statement with her regal wedding look.
The Grammy-winning singer, 30, married actor Callum Turner, 36, on May 31 in a ceremony held at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London, The Associated Press confirmed.
Shortly after their nuptials, the couple was photographed exiting the hall hand in hand, with loved ones surrounding them. While Turner opted for a classic navy suit, Lipa stunned in a Schiaparelli skirt suit, resembling an old Hollywood star. She paired the look with a wide-brimmed Stephen Jones white hat and matching gloves fit for a queen.

Lipa has been known to favor a bold look, whether it be a sheer dress at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February to support her beau’s new film or a shimmery black-and-gold gown from the Schiapparelli Haute Couture spring summer 2026 collection at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March.
But her latest ensemble from the Italian fashion house might be her most coveted yet.

The Meaning Behind Dua Lipa’s Wedding Outfit
In pictures of Lipa and Turner leaving the town hall shortly after saying “I do,” the two look like they time traveled from a different era, thanks to the singer’s chic skirt suit.
Kristen Coke, founder of The Wedding Strategist and a cultural events content creator, says that the look combines a “timeless and modern” feel at the same time.
She says the suit doesn’t feel trendy, yet it is still current.
“What struck me immediately was how beautifully balanced the look feels. It’s undeniably fashion-forward, but it never feels like it’s trying too hard,” she explains to TODAY.com. “I love the structure of the suit and the precision of the tailoring. It feels incredibly appropriate for the occasion: elegant, intentional, and quietly confident. At the same time, it never loses its softness. There’s still something very feminine and romantic about it.”
Coke also notes standout details like the tan underside of the hat, which gives Lipa an almost “golden glow” around her face, Schiaparelli’s signature gold buttons, the Bvlgari necklace and the ivory color that looks pale blue in some pictures.
Fashion editor Maggie Gillette highlights Lipa’s diamond-encrusted Bvlgari necklace, too. She says the jewelry coupled with the Schiaparelli buttons represent the singer’s playful side.
“(Lipa) doesn’t take herself too seriously and she’s really making this look her own,” Gillette praises. “The performer also has a nontraditional engagement ring so it’s in keeping with her personal style that trends toward edgy high fashion.”
Gillette shares that Schaperelli’s Daniel Roseberry designed the skirt suit, which featured a high–low hem to pair with Lipa’s stilettos. She also reveals that Lipa wore a custom blush bustier under her suit jacket to add some color.
Who Might’ve Inspired Dua Lipa’s Wedding Look?
If Lipa’s suit reminiscent of ‘60s and ‘70s fashion, there is a reason why.
The Knot editorial director Esthee Lee tells TODAY.com that Lipa was possibly inspired by activist and former actor Bianca Jagger, who wed Mick Jagger in 1971. For their ceremony, the human rights advocate donned a large white hat with an attached veil to go with her wedding suit, featuring a longer skirt.
Speaking about the two brides, Lee says, “Both women embraced nontraditional wedding dresses, proving that bridal wear can be as much about self-expression as it is about tradition.”

Lee adds that the reference “blends Dua’s personality perfectly, as it really incorporates both her cool-girl persona, while also being elegant and classic.”
She points out that while paying homage to the past, Lipa’s look reflects the future and the current trend of prioritizing “personal style over convention.”
Gillette notes the Bianca Jagger inspiration as well. But she says that Lipa’s look has a more 1950s shape that distinguishes her suit from the activist’s ensemble, which was a Yves Saint Laurent design.
“The Yves Saint Laurent skirt suit (Jagger) wore is one of the most iconic cool girl wedding looks and has inspired more than a few tributes throughout the years,” Gilette says.
Coke says there is a deeper significance in Lipa echoing Bianca Jagger’s look.
“Bianca herself was part of a larger shift happening in fashion at the time,” she explains. “She helped cement the idea that women’s tailoring could be every bit as glamorous and seductive as a traditional gown.”
“What makes Dua’s look interesting is that it feels less like a direct homage and more like a contemporary interpretation of that lineage,” she continues. “That’s why I see it as a look that’s in conversation with Bianca Jagger, Saint Laurent’s tailoring legacy, Schiaparelli’s surrealist sensibility, and what I think is Dua’s own long-standing love of fashion history.”
How Can Brides Be Inspired by Dua Lipa’s Wedding Look?
Feeling inspired by Lipa’s skirt suit? Coke says brides who are considering replicating Lipa’s look should try to emulate the “End Of An Era” singer’s mindset instead.
Coke notes how effortless Lipa’s suit and styling come across.
“What I find confident about the look is that the look feels completely self-possessed. There’s no sense that it’s trying to prove something or challenge convention for the sake of it. It feels like someone who knows exactly who she is and what she wants to wear on her wedding day,” she explains. “That’s often what I think can make a bridal be memorable; if the person wearing it seems completely at ease in it. That’s the quality I think people are responding to here.”
Lee mentions The Knot’s recent “Real Weddings Study,” which was published in February. She says the bridal magazine found that the idea of a “traditional wedding” has been changing. Some couples are ditching the expected protocols for connection, comfort and authenticity.
“Dua’s recent wedding exemplifies just that — that you can prioritize the ones you love, wear what you’d like, and do your own thing that doesn’t follow the traditional playbook,” she says.
