Elle Macpherson suffered an awkward mishap when she stepped out with her partner Doyle Bramhall on Monday.

The 61-year-old model went on a shopping trip with Doyle in New York City and left one of her hair extension tapes exposed.

She seemed oblivious to the gaffe as she visited designer stores with her beau.

One extension was noticeable at the back of her head as she carried shopping bags through the streets.

Elle looked stylish for the shopping outing in black track pants, a white T-shirt and a beige blazer.

She completed her look with a pair of black sneakers and carried a large light brown bag across her body.

Elle kept a low profile as she opted for dark sunglasses and walked alongside Doyle, who dressed casually in brown pants and a khaki jacket.

He accessorised with a grey T-shirt, a pair of brown sneakers and held a satchel bag.

The sighting comes after a recent photo of Elle confirmed she wears hair extensions to add volume to her locks.

The photo taken last month shows the model walking through a European city in a brown shirt and matching skirt while on holiday.

She had her long blonde locks tied into a messy bun but as she looked down, one of her hair extension bonds was visible.
