The Mystery of Kate Middleton's Ruby and Diamond Earrings
For the occasion, she opted to rewear a bespoke Catherine Walker military-style coat dress (she’s previously worn it on Remembrance Sunday in 2019 and 2023), a Jane Taylor hat, and her go-to wool gloves from Cornelia James. However, our attention was on her ruby and diamond drop earrings.

Kate has only worn the earrings twice before; she stepped out in them earlier this year to welcome U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on their State Visit to the UK in September, and to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day in May. For the latter outing, she paired the earrings with a matching ruby cluster pendant.

The necklace looked similar to one she wore during a visit to Poland in summer 2017, but as What Kate Wore noted, “the pendant worn [on VE Day] has a different bail than that worn in Poland. It’s possible it is a different piece, perhaps made to match the earrings.”

The Princess of Wales doesn’t frequently wear ruby jewelry, instead often turning to sapphires to match her engagement ring. Her most famous piece of ruby jewelry is a ruby fringe necklace designed by Lebanese jewelry house Mouawad; she’s only worn the necklace once, in 2011, and the matching earrings once, in 2020. Kate was believed to have received the set for her wedding.

Therefore, it remains a mystery if Kate’s ruby and diamond earrings today are from the Royal Collection, or her own jewelry box. Since she’s only worn them this year, perhaps they are new.
