Want Fresh Green Chillies At Home? This Simple Pot Hack Gives You A Big Harvest

Green chillies are a staple in most Indian kitchens, used in everything from dals and sabzis to countless other recipes. But when prices rise sharply in the market, many people hesitate to buy them. The good news? You can easily grow your own green chillies at home in a pot — with very little effort. Here’s how.

To plant chillies, start by choosing a pot that is 10 to 12 inches deep. Prepare the soil by mixing in organic fertiliser and vermicompost. Make sure the mixture is well combined so the plant gets proper nutrition.

Next, plant a chilli sapling in the pot. You can grow chillies from seeds too, but seeds take longer to sprout and mature. For quicker results, planting a small sapling with roots already developed is the best option. Once planted, place the pot in a spot where it receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight every day — chilli plants need this much sun for healthy growth.

During winter, water the plant sparingly. Chilli plants require less water in cold weather, so only water them when the soil becomes dry. Overwatering can stunt the plant’s growth.

For better yield, add fertiliser regularly. Every 15 – 20 days, mix vermicompost or mustard cake into the soil. This boosts plant growth and improves the number of chillies produced.

Chilli plants are also prone to pest attacks. To protect your plant, spray neem oil occasionally. It helps eliminate pests and keeps the plant healthy. Following these simple steps will ensure strong, healthy chilli growth right at home.
