Looking for breakfast pizza in Louisville? Try this East End spot

Louisville is home to dozens of pizza joints boasting various crust styles and creative toppings, but the options are sliced thin when it comes to breakfast pizza.

Upon a quick search, just a handful of area eateries offer the morning version of one of America’s favorite dishes, and one of them isn’t even a traditional pizza restaurant.

If you count flatbread under the ‘za family, Blue Dog Bakery & Cafe, 2868 Frankfort Ave., serves one with poached eggs from Kentucky's Rootbound Farm and crispy bacon, along with fresh mozzarella, provolone and fresh arugula. For Sunday brunches, Hop Atomica, 1318 McHenry St., offers pizza specials such as a recent combination of garlic confit, mozzarella, your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage, and scrambled eggs. Locals Food Hub & Pizza Pub, 822 E. Broadway, has also offered brunch pizzas in the past.

With two dedicated breakfasts pizzas on the menu, Noosh Nosh, 4816 Brownsboro Center, might take the pie for the category of pizza that makes sense for pairing with coffee.

Noosh Noosh, 4816 Brownsboro Center, opened in 2016 and recently began serving breakfast at 8:30 a.m. daily.

The colorful restaurant inside the Brownsboro Road Shopping Center offers a "Breakfast Pizza" topped with scrambled eggs, spinach, tomato slices and bacon as well as the "Chorizo & Egg Pizza" with the pizza's title ingredients as well as cheddar cheese, Fresno chiles and marinara sauce.

And as of mid-November, those dishes may be getting even more play as Noosh Nosh kicked off earlier breakfast hours. It's now open at 8:30 daily, up from a former opening time of 11 a.m.

That means the restaurant’s glossy red and orange pizza oven gets roaring earlier as popular dishes such as an egg white omelet or French toast with banana foster sauce are ordered.

Noosh Nosh's general manager Akshay Kadam decided to push up breakfast, one of many behind-the-scenes decisions he's made since getting involved with the restaurant in September 2022. Kadam eventually took the lead at Noosh Nosh after the passing of its legendary founder, Anoosh Shariat, who died in October 2024 following a multi-year battle with cancer.

Over the last year or so, Kadam said he's never stopped thinking of his mentor, Shariat. Kadam has kept the menu, a wide-ranging collection of pizza, tacos, sandwiches like a pastrami Reuben and entrees like fish and chips, nearly the exact same as Shariat left it. And Kadam often still sports a Noosh Nosh T-shirt adorned with the phrase, "Eat well, love life," attributed to Shariat.

"If you met him in person, you would fall in love with him. He was that kind of person," Kadam said. "Whenever people come here, they should remember him."

That's why, for example, Kadam has never considered changing the restaurant's name or closing. He hopes to open a second location in the future.

"That's our kind of honoring him to keep everything the same," Kadam said.

During a busy lunch hour at Noosh Nosh, a smiling Kadam could be seen jogging orders to tables, making a fresh pot of coffee, greeting customers and printing their checks. He could also be seen delivering breakfast dishes, such as pizzas, since those are served until 3 p.m. daily.
