Top 10+ Houston restaurants that closed in March, including Be More Pacific and 5Kinokawa

The uncertainty felt from 2025 is still bleeding into 2026 for Houston restaurants, as many decide to close for good.

At least 10 local spots closed in March, with some reaching the end of their lease and others simply choosing not to continue business in a tough economic climate. Among the recently closed restaurants are longtime establishments like the Raven Grill and Taqueria Cancun, plus restaurants that made their stamp in the city in the post-pandemic era, such as 5Kinokawa and Be More Pacific.

5Kinokawa

This sushi spot for served its final meal March 29. Chef Billy Kin opened the omakase restaurant five years ago. He told the Houston Chronicle his lease in the Heights was up and with the rising cost of rent and other expenses, he decided not to renew.

Be More Pacific

Filipino restaurant Be More Pacific closed at the end of March. The business started as a food truck in 2012 before opening its first brick-and-mortar in Austin in 2017; it opened in the Houston Heights in 2020. A social media post announcing the closure did not provide details on the decision to close, nor did the restaurant reply to the Chronicle's request for comment. The restaurant thanked its customers in the post. "You helped make Filipino food part of the conversation, and we're incredibly proud of that."

The Catch

The Catch, a Cajun seafood mini-chain, closed its Willowbrook location in early March after about five years. It still has three other locations in Conroe, South Post Oak and Atascocita.

Los 3 Ranchitos

Los 3 Ranchitos closed in Spring. Another location is still open in Tomball.

Mean Grille

March 30 marked the last day for Mediterranean restaurant Mean Grille in the Greenway/Upper Kirby area. It had been open for about two years selling wraps and rice and protein plates with Mediterranean accoutrements.

McCormick & Schmick's

Steakhouse chain McCormick & Schmick's closed its Town & Country Village location. The COO told Chron.com in a statement they sold the lease and assets to a new ownership group. It had been in the west Memorial area since 2010.

Paris Banh Mi

This Florida-born chain of banh mi shops closed its Katy location at the end of March. It has over 50 shops across the U.S., including one still open in Pearland.

Pie Tap

Less than a year after this Dallas-area pizza restaurant opened in River Oaks, it announced its closure on social media. Pie Tap Pizza made its Houston debut in June 2025, serving pizza, rotisserie chicken and pasta. Pie Tap still has seven locations across the Dallas-Forth Worth metro.

The Raven Grill

The Raven Grill served its last meal March 29 after 28 years of business. The restaurant's landlord did not renew its lease, according to a Facebook post from the Raven Grill. The owners are still operating Picnic next door, which offers grab-and-go picnic box lunches.

Taqueria Cancun

Taqueria Cancun in Spring Branch closed after more than 40 years of business. In an emotional social media post, restaurant leadership pointed to the landlord of the restaurant wanting to replace it with a different restaurant. The Taqueria Cancun family hopes to reopen the restaurant in a new location in the future.
