Princess Charlotte’s duet with Kate delights fans
A “special” piano duet by Princess Kate and her 10-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte at a Christmas carol service has delighted fans of the British royalty on social media, who said the performance brought them to tears.
In a video shared online on Christmas Eve, Kate and Charlotte can be seen playing “Holm Sound” by Erland Cooper on the piano to open this year’s Together at Christmas carol service.
“Love and connection through music,” the description of the post reads.
The duet was filmed at Windsor Castle last week and not at the live annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey earlier this month. Kate is playing with only her left hand, while Charlotte uses only her right.
The song, composed by Scottish composer and producer Cooper, was written for his mother, Charlotte.
“I’m crying, the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte perform a special duet,” a fan account of the Prince and Princess of Wales on X wrote, commenting on the video.
“Such a beautiful and heartwarming mother and daughter moment,” another said. “Charlotte looks so happy and proud to be playing with her mother and Catherine’s happiness and the pride in her face is that simply all mothers can relate to.”
The video of the duet was published with a voice-over by Kate, saying that “at its heart, Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest, more human ways. Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones.” She speaks of “simple acts of care,” including “a moment of listening, a word of comfort, a friendly conversation, a helping hand, and presents.”

Fans of the British royal family appreciated her message. “She always says exactly the right thing, and it’s always genuine and heartfelt,” an account called Princess CarParkle wrote on X.
“The tenderness and the close bond the two share is completely apparent!” the Royal News Network wrote on the social media platform.
There was some criticism of the princess’ message for failing to mention Jesus Christ and any hint of Christianity—but fans defended her saying that she chose inclusivity over specific religious mentions.

Kate and William have reportedly become “more religious” after the princess’ recent cancer diagnosis. The mother-of-three never said what type she was diagnosed with in early 2024, but announced in January this year that it was in remission.
The 43-year-old princess donated the majestic Christmas tree from the Together at Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey on December 5 to the hospital where she was treated for cancer, the Oak Cancer Centre, part of The Royal Marsden.
The Daily Mail tabloid reported that while Wiliam had never been much of a churchgoer, he has been attending “more frequently than in the past, though as privately as possible,” since Kate’s diagnosis.
Kate has previously played the piano for the traditional Christmas service. In December 2021, she surprised audiences by accompanying singer-songwriter Tom Walker as he sang his song “For Those Who Can’t Be Here.”
