THE RUNDOWN

For the first time since 2001, Kate Hudson is nominated for an Academy Award, and she arrived on the Oscars red carpet—alongside her mother, Goldie Hawn—in a look befitting the milestone occasion: a custom Giorgio Armani Privé bustier gown in jade green. The look was embroidered with stones and crystals and featured a peplum waist and plunging sweetheart neckline.

Hudson’s Best Actress nomination tonight, for her performance in the musical romance drama Song Sung Blue, comes more than two decades after Hudson first entered the Oscars conversation with her role in Cameron Crowe’s 2001 film Almost Famous, which earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination early in her career. In Song Sung Blue, Hudson plays Claire Cartwright-Sardina, a Milwaukee hairdresser who ends up performing in a Neil Diamond tribute act with Mike Sardina, played by Hugh Jackman.

Reflecting on what drew her to the role, Hudson told NPR, “When you read a lot of scripts, and you read the types of characters that are written for women, very rarely do you see ones that hit all the notes.”

On the awards circuit, Hudson’s stylish fashion choices have also put her in the spotlight. At the Golden Globe Awards in January, she wore a shimmering vintage gown, also by Giorgio Armani Privé.

She later attended the BAFTAs in a custom red Prada gown and appeared at the Actor Awards in a flowing Valentino dress with a cape and long train, which ELLE declared one of the best looks of the night.
